We had talked a few times on the phone, but most recently we had been PMing back and forth about several things, mostly his upgrading of his house battery bank and the use of an auxiliary charging system, and all the associated hardware to get it going. He had just about gathered all of it together in anticipation of getting it installed in March. I had planned on helping him with the installation. I'll miss him.

He was a very intelligent driver. He taught me mostly everything that I know about being a carrier. I know he also spoke highly of you Turtle and the way that you had your truck set up. He really admired people who took the time to set their trucks up the right way. I used to get into arguments with him all of the time because my van is just bare bones. He often told me that his van was his house and that is where he spent the majority of his time and resources. He'll be forever missed.

He loved his Duramax :)

Yes he did. He quite possibly had the best maintained vehicle in this business. He used to say that there are twy types of van drivers - the ones who maintain their trucks and the ones who don't do anything until they break down.

He had a great set up for a van. He was also incredibly professional as a driver. He was driving for us right at the time when I was wanting to transition from being an "independent" to being a carrier and eventually getting off the road. We had just gone from the small carrier level up to Connect on Sylectus and a lot of the people on there are somewhat leary about giving loads to small carriers who aren't that established yet. Phil was sitting up near Albany and was the only unit in the area and a broker that had never given us the time of day had a load posted. I spoke with them and they still didn't want to give us the load but did anyway because we were their only option. He ran the load and conducted himself in such a manner that the consignee called the broker and had nothing but glowing things to say about the driver. The broker was extremely pleased with the job he did and we got ourselves a good customer. Whenever they have a load posted and we have a unit close, more often than not we get the load. I don't know how much money we have made just from that customer, and it's all because of a driver who made a good first impression and represented his company well. This industry needs more people like that.
