US Marine Corps Rules
1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
2. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
3. Have a plan.
4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.
5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not
start with a "4."
7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is
cheap. Life is expensive.
8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend.
(Lateral & diagonal preferred.)
9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber,
stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot.

It's a real service because it's the hard core nucleus about which the Navy rotates in time of war. (and yes, we're all 6 feet or taller so we can wade ashore in case our ship sinks)

Gentlemen,

While we're on the subject - a belated Veteran's Day salute to you all, and all our veteran EO folks. We'll all hoist one together one day, celebrate our freedom, tell a few stories, and celebrate we were not of the 'me' generation.

Now as I recall, aren't the Coasties a division of the Department of Transportation?

Thank God I was a 'Zoomie'.

Gibster:

The USCG started as the Revenue Cutter Service in 1790 under the Treasury Department, and after a series of additional missions, it became the Coast Guard in 1939. In 1966, the service was moved to the Department of Transportation. It was moved again to the Department of Homeland Security upon its establishment.

The Coast Guard is an armed force that operates under the Department of the Navy during time of war. The Coast Guard remains under civilian leadership (Homeland Security) and not in the Department of Defense so that its members can perform law enforcement duties not permissible by DOD forces.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but I couldn't help myself.

Thanks Terry! I kinda set you up - yuk yuk - not in a mean way. After 6 in the USAF ending as E-6, when back in college I went USCG Reserve. I think it's GREAT service!

I just remember them (acknowledgely) being CHEAP! You couldn't get funding for crap. And then it was DOT. Well, I could of told you that!;)

Anywho, glad you were out there. And Lou, and . . .

Oh, by the way - the original post was pretty cool! Thanks Lou.

Them coasters get a mite touchy when impuned. As ex-navy I faced cold steel a couple of times...... My zipper got stuck at a beer party.

Yup. I'm a 6' 1" USCG veteran myself. It was fun and I had experiences that are hard to believe. As I recall the rules of engagement were.
1. If it moves salute it
2. If it doesn't move paint it.
