I would LOVE to know the entire story on this one. Is now illegal to "rudely" carry a firearm?
[h=1]Active-duty Army sergeant arrested for ‘rudely displaying’ a hunting rifle[/h]
A Texas community around Fort Hood, one of the nation’s largest military posts, has become a center of controversy between an Obama-supporting anti-gun prosecutor, the police, and military personnel when an active-duty Army sergeant, stationed at Fort Hood was arrested for carrying a lawfully owned hunting rifle while out hiking with his son, the Daily Caller reported yesterday
Patrick Howley, an Investigative Reporter for the Daily Caller stated,” The conflict reached a fever pitch last month, when Texas police arrested an active-duty Army sergeant for “rudely displaying” a hunting rifle. The sergeant, C.J. Grisham, established anonline legal defense fund after he was, in his words, “illegally arrested and disarmed” for carrying the firearm.”
Howley said that tensions have grown among the local law enforcement and military personnel around the post due to the democrats and liberal attacks on the second amendment and an Obama-supporting prosecutor who has been described as a “bandleader” of anti-gun efforts in the heavily conservative community.
Grisham was arrested in his hometown of Temple, which is in Bell County, Texas, that incorporates both Fort Hood and the city of Temple.
In a video clip, filmed by Grisham’s son, obtained by the Daily Caller, Grisham questions the officers' actions.
When Grisham asked them why they are doing this since he has done nothing wrong and has a concealed carry license, one of the officers says, “In this day and age, people are alarmed when they see someone with what you have.“They don’t care what the law is.”
“And did you explain to them what the law is, sir?” Grisham asks one of the officers. “They don’t care what the law is,” the officer said. Graham then says, “Do you care what the law is? Just because a guy has got a firearm, he’s dangerous?” Grisham asks, drawing the reply, “Yes, sir.”
The other officer tells Grisham that he was “rudely displaying” the rifle.
Texas is a 2nd Amendment right-to-carry state.
On Grisham’s defend fund website, he explains, “I am an active duty Soldier and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm a concealed handgun license holder in several states. I have never in my life been charged with a crime. I live in the country and love to shoot. I strongly believe in the Constitution and the rights guaranteed by it.
While out hiking with my son through back country roads to help him earn his Eagle Scout rank, I was illegally arrested and disarmed without cause. I was thrown in jail and my lawfully owned weapons were confiscated without receipt or notice.
This shouldn't happen in the United States of America, much less the State of Texas.”
“My attorney received the incident reports and official charges from the DA today. The "resisting arrest" (class A misdemeanor) charge has disappeared and been replaced with "interference with public duties" (class B misdemeanor) charge. Neither charge is cause for taking my firearms and they still have not been returned. Now that we have official charges and incident reports, more information will be released this week. I am completely innocent of this and all charges and time will show that I did nothing wrong besides stand up for my rights as an American,” Grisham said.
“No one should have to fear being illegally disarmed without warrant, especially someone who has never committed a crime in his life. There is an overt attempt to disarm Americans, and especially veterans, in this country.”
In an interesting twist, Deborah McKeon of the Telegram reported on Grisham’s story last month, shortly after he was arrested and wanted his guns back, said, “Grisham was arrested March 16, five days after Grisham urged the Temple City Council to declare that citizen rights to keep and bear arms will not be infringed upon.”
Since his arrest, the charges against Sergeant Christopher Grisham of resisting arrest which was a Class A misdemeanor was changed to interrupting, disrupting, impeding and interfering with a peace officer while performing a duty, a Class B misdemeanor.
The Daily Caller reached out to the Temple police who declined comment.
However, his legal bills have mounted and Grisham created a “2nd Amendment Legal Defense Fund” in which he said, “I was illegally arrested and disarmed. I am fighting for gun rights and against illegal search and seizure.”
As of today, his legal defense fund goal of $11,000 has been reached and now totals $11,165 and continues to grow.
