In ACs size does matter. Whether you go APU or rooftop the higher the BTUs the more cooling you will get. A 13000 BTU apu will cool the same as a 13000 rooftop. On exactly the same truck it may feel like the rooftop does a better job because it is blowing down on you, but it is in fact the same.
The most important thing for maintaining truck sleepr temperature is "insulation" if you are specing a new class 8 truck "Get the ARTIC" insulation upgrade I think that's what some companies call it. That will keep out the heat as well as the cold.
I have a AAA sleeper and its insulation is inadaquate, in the summer you can actually feel heat coming through the ceiling. It is adaquate most of the time but on the real hot days it sucks.

That's very useful info ! Had not thought of that..your use of the word "adequate" describes my current situation to a t. Heading to Vegas right now, I'm in the bunk as I write this and I can feel the heat from outside as you describe, also I have always noticed how the truck cabin immediately becomes uncomfortable once the a/c is switched off. Thanks again for this info. Will be very useful in the future.
