Roller door question

Had a rookie fork lift driver bang the bottom lame of the roll up door. nothing damaged outside a roller i have a new roller but it does not roll as well as you think it should. does it need grease or something before instillation like bearings are packed?

Are you sure the roller is the problem? Check to see if the track is dinged, bent or kinked. If so there is a tool to straighten the track. I don't know the proper name for this tool. Picture a hammer handle with a solid metal piece, beveled and shaped to fit inside the track. This tool is inserted at an angel to fit inside the lip of the track. It is then driven down the length of the track with blows from a hammer to straighten out any irregularities. Check with a trailer repair shop. They may even pound it out for free!

Ive never heard of packing the roller bearings,,,, ???
Whats not working just right?? the single new roller ya put in or the whole door?
if its the whole door and no damage to the tracks,,Maybe start looking to see if the door opening was knocked out of sguare,,easy to do with a tapemeasure and a freind to help ya hold the tape.

does it kinda look like a cross between a planishing hammer and a hand dollie that is track shaped?

track looks fine but will keep that in mind, it was the roller shaft it's self that was bent. wanted to make sure i was not missing a step before installation.

RLENT;possibly but then again a silly engineer might have given it a silly nomenclature happens all the time.

Yea, that's real close. Just below the track shaped head, the handle is built-up steel to accept the driving force of the hammer.

A door roller will not spin nearly as easily or free as a wheel or shaft bearing. If the track isn't dinged up, slap in the new roller, give it a shot of light oil and you should be good to roll.

Ooops! My mistake. You're right. Angels have more important things to tend to than roll-up doors.

I do know for a fact that Euclid had a guardian angle.

I delivered some stuff to Euclid 'bout a month ago, up there around Bay City - and I confirm there was at least one guardian angel on the premises .... he unloaded me.

Getting back to the original question. Of course the new roller doesn't spin as easily, it's NEW. New ones won't spin as easily as old warn ones. Oil it, put it in and happy door opening and closing to you.

when i had my roll up door replaced last year was told to let my mechanic know that grease was not recommended. only a little machine oil (3 in one) - (not wd40 or spray lithum grease -which is what my mechanic used when i took it to him) i was having a problem with the door loosing rollers when i opened it. after replacing several rollers several times finally took back to the factory for them to checkout. the roller mounts were woreout. almost as cheep to replace the door as them (lots of labor to just do the rollers) so went with new door.
