Hey Jack, there is something I just don't understand. I never saw Falling Down, what I saw of the trailers it would never interest me. What I don't understand is how a scene in a movie would cause you to own or not own anything? Movies are just pretend. Sorry, not trying to be a pain, I just don't understand. I have never seen any movie that made me do something or not do something or own or not own something. Movies are not real and are just entertainment to me. Please enlighten me. Don't take this as an arguement or anything like that. I just would like to understand your thought process. It is forgien to me. Thanks, Layoutshooter

Willam Dafoe, William H. Macy, and Christopher Walken are three that weren't mentioned, but are excellent character actors. Don't forget Robin Williams. He's certainly graduated from Mork.

Dafoe, Macy, Walken and Robin Williams are among my favorites as well. I enjoyed Macy in Fargo as the bumbling used car salesman/ sales manager turned wife killer. Liked Robin Williams in "World According To Garp" and "Good Will Hunting." Also, in "Patch Adams."
Sometimes, I think Robin Williams is trying to tell us, the audience, something profound about humanity.
Remember Williams performance in "Dead Poets Society"... just stellar.

Layout, Jack quoted me.

You have to see the movie to appreciate the scene. I'm sure many people have felt some degree of anger and frustration when dealing with brain dead "service industry workers."

How about the scene in Dr. Strangelove where Col. Bat Gauno (Keenan Wynn) empties his machine gun into a Coke machine to get enough change for the payphone to call the President. Sure looked like he was enjoying himself! And maybe extracting a little revenge?

I would think any true red blooded American who has ever been ripped off by a vending machine would have thought "man I wish that was me with that machine gun" after seeing the Coca-Cola machine spewing its precious bodily fluids onto the floor..

I was in junior high when I saw the movie Bullit. I had no money and no driver's license, but I wanted a Mustang!

I just would like to understand your thought process. It is forgien to me.

Yeah, sometimes it's foreign to me too! Look, I have not problem with guns. I am not anti gun. I just don't happen to own any guns.

When I lay down my hard earned cash for something, it is usually for something I plan on using. I don't hunt. As for personal protection, I rely on my quick wit and I usually surround myself with people larger than me. I don't need a gun.

I think you are a little too tightly wrapped up in all of this gun control stuff! I believe that is why you replied to my post the way you did. Lighten up a little and cut back on the fluoridated water.

Movies may be pretend, but they do make you think. They may make you think of something or a situation you've never thought about before. Pretend or not, everything you see, hear and read will have an effect on how you think. It's called experience. Advertisers are well aware of this phenomena. Younger minds can be more easily influenced by what they see in movies and on television, to be sure, but anyone who's ever asked their doctor if they have restless leg syndrome or an overactive bladder has been influenced by what they see.

Clearly, anyone who says they have never seen any movie that made them want to do something has never seen porn.

No Moot, I was not speaking of owning or not owning a gun. I was speaking in general. I can honestly say that no movie to date, that I have seen, has made me want to own or not own anything. To me movies are just pretend and only for entertainment. I might have to bow to Turtle's observation on porn though. LOL.

Just read some bio stuff on Duvall at imdb.com ... He's 78 years old, the son of a vice admiral. Robert served in the enlisted ranks of the US Army himself, roomed with Dustin Hoffman as a struggling young actor(both of whom were good friends with young Gene Hackman). Duvall is a staunch conservative, refuses to work with Steven Speilberg or Dremworks Studio, and has a large horse farm in Virginia. Apparently, Duvall is an avid tango dancer, loves Argentina and has had more marriages than yours truly.
Disclaimer: I found this on imdb.com... can't vouch for its accuracy.

Ok, from a female perspective.. for "hunky, sex-appeal" I have to say Vin Diesel and Bruce Willis. :D I really like Christopher Walken in The Prophecy 1, 2 and 3. Tom Hanks is a magnificent actor and Sally Field is my favorite actress. :D

Ah.. but eventually men saw the error of their simple minded views and opened the way for the female's intelligence, common sense and logic to shine through. I think the time that you are referring to was called "The Dark Ages". :p hehehe

I too believe there are two types of actors..
One where the character becomes the actor and of course the actor that becomes the character but none of you have pinned Duvalls greatest movie ever starred with Michael Caine in Second Hand Lions:rolleyes:

I like when they fly the plane into the barn at the end of the movie and when they shoot at the salesmen who always try to get them to buy new stuff. Hilarious lol.
