Roadcheck 2012

Today I was up and down I 65/75 and I saw quite a few trucks behind the scales, LEOs were standing out by the scale as we rolled across, looking, listening, a truck right in front of me that had the most awful squealing brakes each time he slowed was pulled around back, I did notice that most of the trucks that were behind the shack were Older, and dirty, rough or worn out looking, Ive rolled thru without issue and even a wave or two, anybody have tales, storys, etc...

My Brother was over in West Memphis and thru Forristell in MO and his comment also was the trucks that were getting inspected looked like they needed it, dirty or rough....and Forristell was hitting the logbooks hard...

We were given bypass signals all day. There were troopers at a service plaza on the PA turnpike, knocking on doors, doing inspections. Wonder how that works if you are off duty?

That is how I would look at it. Would that not mess up a 10 hour break or 34 hour reset? Seems to me it would. THEN, you COULD get cited for log book violations.

I don't see it as a refusal if I ignore them by not coming out of the bunk. Sorry officer I thought you was a lot lizard, didn't miss it by much.

I definetly would ignore that, im not getting up to answer the door for a trooper who then wants to harass me in the middle of my sleep, Nope, if they cant see me im not home....I remember back a few years ago being over on 57 headed north and sleeping in a rest area before going into Chi town, sometime during the nite the DOT, DEA, AND Border Patrol setup in the rest area and started searching and questioning and knocking on doors, I stayed in my bunk and ignored repeated knocks, after they left I had a note on my cab asking me to call the State Police wanting to know why no one was in my truck, I said I had called a cab and gone to the Dentist with a toothache.

Pearlpro: I'm wondering why you'd make the call - I wouldn't. I'd be too angry, because they have absolutely no right to ask why no one was in the truck when they felt like inspecting it. Really, it's none of their business! I've been known to 'volunteer' for a Level 1 too, like Moose, [last inspection was Level 2, and I tried to make it Level 1, but the LEO said he didn't have time for it].
Yesterday I went from Ky to In to Oh, then Mi today, and only went through one open scale in all of that.

As a matter of fact they are like lizards, they knock at the window, they screw you, then they take your money...

1. yes they can do a inspection in a service plaza, since that is public property (own by the state)

2. If you don't answer for a while they can have a tow truck tow the truck. Public property again.

3. YES they can get you out of bed too do a inspection, because you can always be on duty not driver forever, you just cannot drive till you have a 10 hour break.

4. You would start you break over again.

It's pretty simple, answer the door and be inspected or ask the officer if they could come back when your break is over.

If your 14 is out you can't be on duty. Otherwise we would not have 11/14 rule it would be the 11 hour rule. They can not make you come out of the sleeper if you are out of your 14.

Not true. You CAN be on duty more than 14 hours. You can work until they close the lid on your corpse. You just can't DRIVE after being on for 14 until you've had a 10-hour break. They can make you come out of your sleeper. You just have to restart your break. They'd have to be major (rhymes with plicks) to do it, but guess what--law enforcement and the DOT just happens to attract "plicks."

Cross-country from Seattle, WA, to Erie, PA, this week. Green lighted through some scales, pulled into a couple of others to be weighed and waved through. Business as usual this week regarding scales and inspections.
