Well written article! This is one of those things we need to be reminded of often...just to remember to keep cool under pressure and when we are tired. Thanks for the information. india

Both Bob and I do pretty good but what really gets to me it when the signs say left lane closed ahead. You dutifully move over and then you watch all of the cars zooming forward to cut in front of you. When they even drive down the shoulders my blood really starts boiling. I was really proud of myself one day we where empty and had been in this line way to long. This women comes rushing down the shoulder and just knows she can cut in front of me. I am empty and I don't think I had 6 inches between me and the car in front of me. Well she tried a few times and gave up and as I watched in my mirror no one else let her in for a good long while. Made my day. I still have a problem with that behavior but looking back it was stupid to do and I don't believe I will try it again to that extent. I am sure she would have had the last laugh if I would have rear ended the car in front of me. It will stiff frustrate me but I can at least chuckle to myself that just once it didn't work!

Jeff good article. We live and work in a very scary world and we should add to the problem.

Funny story about cars trying beat you in construction.
Years back,in Delaware comming out of NJ,on I295 where it goes into I95.there was a constuction area, trucks were blocking the left lane so everyone would move faster.
A car passed me in the construction, left of the barrels, and gave me that #1 salute, just as you got on to the I95,there he was, broke down with flat tire, and his wife was giving him what for,he was the talk on the radio for hours.

That is a good one Steve and I am sure his wife was hot. Once in Wyoming we had been snowed in with the interstate closed and all of us where moving like snails. Well a few cars decided why not use the shoulder of the interstate and they where going pretty fast. A big truck up in front of us had had enough and he started doing little swerves as they where coming and put them out into the snow. Now that is entertainment at a high level. Not a one of them got stuck but they sure slowed down. As you can imagine the CB was really lit up for that one.

The fun little thrills we have out here.

The damndest thing I ever saw happened in a construction zone on I26 just east of Hendersonville,NC. The left lane was closed and at the absolute last merge point here sits one of those big flashing yellow arrow signs( one of the trailer mounted ones) right in the middle of the left lane. The lady in the car was just so determined to get ahead of a few big trucks till she never slowed down and completely demolished the sign sending parts of it accross the wall into the west bound lanes! Perhaps the only thing that would have been funnier was the explanation she gave the investigating officer!

one i liked was a car running down the shoulder and didn't see trooper up head waitting for some one to run shoulder , he made them wait for where they pulled out of traffic , than put them back 4 car's back, someone asked why he did that and he said was better than going to traffic court on his day off
and everybody had to agree to that

I'm like Linder - I hate to see people get away with such rude behavior, and I won't let them in front of me. There is a really simple way to stop them, though: a sign saying "Use both lanes to merge point, take your turn" Just as we learned in kindergarten: it's quicker, and I wonder why it isn't used more?

Wonder why it's not universal on how to merge so no second guessing and nobody has an excuse except maybe just bad drivers.

Before I became a "professional driver" I made a road trip to Albuquerque, NM by myself. They were doing road construction through one of the western states on I-40 (can't remember which one) Anyway, before the construction areas they would, for example, close the right lane, then about a mile down, close the left lane, so you ended up in a sort of slalom course for a few miles. It slowed traffic down, and instead of having stopped traffic for miles until the merge, it forced everyone to "play nice" I thought it was an excellent idea at the time.

Road Rage is scary when you witness it. I just slow down, and let them go on down the road. That way, I'll have time to get out of the way when their stupidity gets them in trouble.
