Removing signs

Can anyone offer advice on how to remove the ConWay signage from my van? One driver said to use vinegar to soak it, like for wallpaper - does that really work? Would a wallpaper remover that uses steam be good? I had no trouble removing the phone number, but those were small pieces! I don't want to damage the paint, nor would I like driving around with remnants of the logo stubbornly staying put... thanks for whatever tips you can throw out there :)

A hair dryer to warm the decal helps, along with a hard rubber scraper with a sharp edge. Then use a product called Goof Off with a rag. Do it in the shade with a case of Port and you should be good to go.

This has been covered on here a million times. Do a search on things like decals, logos, company stickers, company logos etc.

I feel say it takes some fingernails, some scrapping and then a good orange oil. But you can read all about it in the search. There are many ways but no good easy way.

Thanks, guys - I can come up with everything but the fingernails! And the port, if that means the stuff you drink...:+

Heya Cheri,

The absolute BEST way to remove it is w/ a hair dryer. Put it on hot & start at the corner of a sticker. It'll kind of just come up as you'll see. If it's done right that'll be all ya need. Ya may want to get an adhesive remover in case there's little snippets of glue left over. Even then I'd wait until after ya used the hair dryer on it & see how many snippets there are. Odds are you won't need the adhesive remover. My guess is any little glue spots ya have can be pretty much rubbed off w/ your finger. Once ya do a sticker or two you'll get the hang of it.

Good luck to ya,
Danny

Last summer I took the signs off a con-way van and parked so the sun hit the side I was working on, started on the corners and slowly pulled them off. If you pull to fast they will just rip and you will have trouble.

took me about 2 hrs on each side, let the sun hit the side and get it hot.

I responded b4 I read the other answers. I see where a rubber tool is recommended. That might not be a bad idea. All I used was a hair dryer & my fingers. It gets a lil hot, but nothing unbearable. Again, just heat the corner, let it bubble up a lil. Then slowly start peeling away keeping the dryer moving up the sticker.

When ya first start, ya will prolly get half a sticker off & it'll kind of snap off on ya. Not sure how Conways stickers are, but what I'm referring to here is ya might get the "Con" off & ya have to start over w/ the "way". Not a big deal though. You'll prolly see what I'm referring to when ya do it.

By time ya get to the 2nd side of your van, you'll be a pro & the whole sticker will come off in one smooth motion. =)

Good luck to ya,
Danny

When I removed some I just tried to get a good start with the dryer, and then backed off the heat, because they started streaching and ripping.

Won't PII remove the stickers for you?

JJ: yes, they will, but the'll pay us $100 to do it - even if it takes 4 hours, that's not bad money!
Especially considering how easy it is to blow 4 hours by doing a search for the info, & getting sidetracked reading all kinds of interesting stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with decals, lol.
Thanks, Raceman - but every time I do a search, I waste more time than I'm trying to save!!:+

I paid $75 to have signs removed at J-Care in Indy. That would be a $25 profit and no wear and tear on your delicate fingers.

I don't know if it will work with Conway decals, but at a friend's suggestion, I once used WD-40 to soak and remove a bumper sticker. Worked like a charm. You might try it on a tiny corner of a decal.

Considering how much of an extension cord I'd need to run a blow dryer from my second floor apt out to the parking lot, I like the WD 40 idea! :7 Thanks, everyone, but I still don't know what the port is for - drinking, or adhesive remover? :p
