The lead sheets seem such a waste of time but if they want it they will get them! Do you know what the next step will be in this process with paperwork?

That Lead Sheet is the one document you give the custom officer...you only give the manifest and invoices IF asked for....Eventually the manifest will disappear and one paps label will be used on the invoice.

The Lead Sheet is generated from the carrier only. The trip number is your company supplied number , not the brokers, not U.S. Customs.

We are giving them the ACE manifest and also the commercial invoice with the PAPS number on the commercial invoice. I am having a hard time understanding how the ACE manifest is going to replace the commercial invoice with the PAPS number. We have never been asked for the BOL but we have it sitting there and ready to give to the customs agent.

Can you review again the proper procedure for entering the customs area? Such as both sitting in the front of the cab with interior lights on? Also shutting the truck off and not setting the brakes?

Most customs officers like to see all the occupants of the truck. They don't like it when someone is skulking in the shadows.
We shut ours off going into the U.S. cause we being in a van are way down there and have a hard time hearing the officer. Going into Canada it is a requirement.
I would assume from past experience not setting the brake is so the that loud PSSST when set doesn't rattle thier eardrums.
Also to approach the booth slowly and give them time to punch in your plate number. Going into Canada they have camera's on the vehicle they read it off the screen.
Also DON'T smoke!!!
And have ALL identification on hand. They hate waiting for someone to fumble around looking for it. It also makes the driver look inexperienced and holds up the line.

About the ACE I can only sumise that it will gravitate on that trip number ..company id, date, truck number.

Our ACE failed Sunday because our co made an error with the trip number and the officer used the paper manifest as a back-up. BUT this is acceptable for about 60 days and the hammer will drop.

I think that US customs needs to get their act together and go to a simple system that would use technology better, not to make four changes in three years.

What happened to FAST? I got nailed for $250 this year for the transponder and I have no way to look at the balance for the transponder or see if I even get charged. the last time I was in the van, I still had to pay to cross, which the transponder was supposed to cover per the US customs people.

greg you must still be FAST and anyone in the truck(no more passngers) to use ACE and of course BRASS also known as line release.
Did you pay the $215 this year? The transponder has no balance but is good for the year.
Maybe the transponder is defective. did you have them try it out???

Can u explain ACE to me. I don't know what this is and we
do go into Canada at times. Is this for coming back to USA
from Canada load or empty? Or going into Canada from the USA with a load?

Is there a form #? we work for FXCC also and they
didn't tell me about this form. Is this the manifest
that you are speaking of? If so, when I went across the
border toward NY (syracuse) the border (USA) asked me
for my manifest. I didn't have one and he said to
make sure I do next time because I could be fined $500.00.
FedEx has not told me of such item..

You need to call you Contract Coordinator and have them email you or fax you the form. It is a blank form and you just make copies of the Ace Manifest to be used at each crossing. You also need to talk to your Contract Coordinator about being placed on the Weekly email list. The Ace form has been discussed in great length on the Weekly email and there has also been several QualComm messages on how to use the Ace Form.

This is of no surprise to me...either the driver wasn't paying attention in orientation or some companys just cut the drivers loose to fend for themselves!!! Its not just FDXCC it's most of the U.S. based carriers...I don't know how many inbound manifests I've handed out at the border (A8A's) to save someones butt! You just scratch out the preprint carrier barcode and manually write in yours.

Little story here: I once was chastized for not pressing hard and Canada Customs couldn't read the BOTTOM copy(there's 5 copies) she made me re-write it or face a $50.00 fine. So I's re-write it and she stamps top 3 copies and tears them off and proceeds to throw BOTTOM 2 copies in GARBAGE!!! They only need 3, 1 for you, one for them and one for broker...Do you know how hard it was to just bite my tongue and walk away?????*LOL*
