Every year we go to the Jekyl Island GA Beach music festival. There is one North Carolina group called Shagtime that appear every year. They end their gig with an American medley starting with Dixie Land and ending with Glory Glory Halleluiah.

I have to say this, it doesn't get much better then to be on the beach ,full of beer with good friends listening to great Beach music. Another group that gets you going is the Swinging Medallions.

One time we deadheaded from Dallas to make this party.

Rich,

Ha, Small world!! You have probably heard my old band there..The PartyTyme Band. We played there in 2000 and 2003. We were regulars at SOS in Myrtle Beach SC every year and in 2003 were nominated for best new Beach song of the year by the Beach Music association. One of the guys from The Swingin' Medallions was in my Band Craig Bently, Played Guitar and we would switch off on Keyboards. The Medallions are a great Band. Only one surviving member left but they do a Great show. Best known for Double Shot of my baby's love from back in the 60's.

Rich,

The Swingin' Medallions didn't break up, All of the original members have either moved on to form their own groups or have passed away. They were replaced by new, and in most cases younger members that have carried the Band on and in my opinion have taken the Band to a new level. They have always been a show band but without the punch they have now. They are now on more the level of the Embers,Epics, and Fantastic Shakers.

I was a very young US Army grunt and used to hear that song at the beer garden in Ft Benning GA. We all missed our girlfriends and that song was played a lot on a JukeBox. For those who don't know what a JukeBox is,think of an I Pod about 1000 times larger.

OH boy, you know that there is more to this than ‘modern’ music.

I could list about 50 songs that are not in this thread that are still what is considered the best love songs of recorded music history but only one really has earned the title because of the number of singers/bands that have covered it and the enduring quality of the song itself.

The song is Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael and Mitchell Parish, and the number and range of singers/bands who covered it is just amazing – being number one song covered and the second covered it Mack the Knife (not the Bobby Darin version).

Oh Sinatra did a long version of Stardust and it really is good but it is not on CD at all for some reason - it should be.
