Reefer Relocation Charge

As far as the FSC for dry box vs reefer, I am always surprised every month when I figure
out net fuel cost by adjusting the total fuel purchased less FSC. Month after month , $1.20
to $1.25 is my adjusted cost for fuel after FSC.

Not bad, eh for a DR unit.

But I got to tell you my D unit did better. Same motor, tranny, make, condo, yet my net fuel cost was always under a buck.

Not bad eh............... yet, not as good as a B unit.

But, as some have pointed out, it doesnt matter what the money is called, ultimately it is all income.

If you can pay your expenses and you are happy with what is left for settlement,
accept the load. That is bottom line.

The $2.00/mile thresh-hold, that we strove to reach as very good pay when we got into expediting last year, has been revamped to $2.45/mile.

We take jobs under that, of course, and get giddy when we go over $3.00/mile, but the $1.35 rates of a year ago, now has to be $1.75 or we cant afford to run.
And at that, $1.75 is cheap freight, but a few of them vs sitting
in a bad market or helping me get home instead of my paying to deadhead, helps control
expenses.

As far as reefer relocation, havent herd one way or the udder, but as we said its all
mooooooney, and if it pays for the milk and cookies, ya probably added to the bottom line.

Quick question
What is your average with the FSC included? I hope the 2.45 for all miles.

You guys crack me up.I dont care if the fsc is 1 penny or 50 dollars a mile, bottom line is,when you get a run offer,if you can afford to do the run, great if not, turn it down.As an owner opp,you should know your cost to operate your truck. If your not hauling the freight for enough money, you will join the others that have went belly up over the many years.Dave KC says you need 2.45 all miles for a D unit, some may, some might not,I know I'd like that but I dont need that much for my tractor.

Steve.......I said " hoped he got 2.45 for all miles"
Please reread my earlier post.
I didn't say anywhere whether he needed it or didn't.
Just a clarification of his post as to what he thought his average was.

No problem. It is expediting. Anything can happen....the good to great, and the stuff that totally ticks you off.

Soon.....I will have a truck repair saga I will post about that falls into the latter thought.

dont start with the truck repairs,Ive got some fantastic, funny stors now,but not then.Had a driver dead head from binghamton ny to the cat shop outside of cleveland, with no water.and wanted to blame it on the truck for the motor blowing up.Cat couldnt believe they were able to drive it in.Ok now i have your attention, same people had a 50 lb air guage, told me they checked the tires by sticking them twice, now, get off the floor. This is why I'm down to 1 truck

Hi Dave,
I wish I could say I average $2.45/mile...... cant.

My average is over $2.00, but not to higher loaded miles but to higher FSC. My net is running
about the same, some months a couple points lower some a couple points higher.

12 months ago I thought $1.85 to $2.00 was a good median, now thats 20% higher because
of fuel.

I just have to keep that in mind when the offer comes across.

The money/mile I am talking about includes everything in the offer.

Nightcreature, my doing a little math to figure my fuel expense after FSC is because I am
not an O/O. But I do pay the fuel. I monitor to make sure I am netting at least as much as I would if I were on a 40/60 split instead of the 62/38 I am getting.

If I was an O/O and not paying out that 38%, I wouldnt care about the cost less FSC, and my levels of acceptance may vary as well, if I was keeping all the money.

your doing as most should,if i were one of the 60/40 drivers Id be doing the same thing.in fact I like to play with my loads and see if what I pay my co-drive would have any effect if we were on the 60/40 split. We just did a load to Oregon,My co makes 23% before fsc.this load paid him $910 bucks for 2100 miles, and two days work,at a 60/40 splt, after fuel, this would have been 1050.It did help,we gaot 7.5 mpg, from Southbend In to Portland Or

Dave,

I think many are in the same boat. We are seeing a steady increase in our overall rates from Panther, but that difference for the most part ends up in the fuel tanks.
The good news is, up to this point, they seem to be keeping up.
It looks as if the Fed is doing the same.
