As far as the FSC for dry box vs reefer, I am always surprised every month when I figure
out net fuel cost by adjusting the total fuel purchased less FSC. Month after month , $1.20
to $1.25 is my adjusted cost for fuel after FSC.
Not bad, eh for a DR unit.
But I got to tell you my D unit did better. Same motor, tranny, make, condo, yet my net fuel cost was always under a buck.
Not bad eh............... yet, not as good as a B unit.
But, as some have pointed out, it doesnt matter what the money is called, ultimately it is all income.
If you can pay your expenses and you are happy with what is left for settlement,
accept the load. That is bottom line.
The $2.00/mile thresh-hold, that we strove to reach as very good pay when we got into expediting last year, has been revamped to $2.45/mile.
We take jobs under that, of course, and get giddy when we go over $3.00/mile, but the $1.35 rates of a year ago, now has to be $1.75 or we cant afford to run.
And at that, $1.75 is cheap freight, but a few of them vs sitting
in a bad market or helping me get home instead of my paying to deadhead, helps control
expenses.
As far as reefer relocation, havent herd one way or the udder, but as we said its all
mooooooney, and if it pays for the milk and cookies, ya probably added to the bottom line.
