Redundant questions of an expediter

 Well received one phone call today and was offered a driving team position and would receive .24 per mile and we pay fuel. Wouldn't tell me their location or which company they are. He kept representing himself only as "Panther expedite."
Something didn't seem right about this whole thing. Anyhow, I passed on that. Shouldn't someone have a little info on who they are?
Tomorrows another day :)

Twiggy ... To be candid, the ES folks probably did you a favor in the long run. Mixed household teams have a very high failure rate and teaming up with a complete stranger would have likely sent you down the road to failure and/or extreme frustration. Carriers and fleet owners actively recruit same household teams for good reasons.

Talked to a gentleman today that has no affiliation with Panther and although we haven't discussed anything other than I will be on % rather than ppm, he was open to discussing what they typically receive per mile and I quote him at between " 1.50 to 3.00 per mile."
This is substantially higher than anyone else I've spoken to. Also explained to me that I will be interviewed by the co-driver and then him once again on the phone, and then possibly another interview with the driver in person. I hope I finally found a stand-up business without the tricks. Being told that they want several interviews impresses me because it seems everyone else I speak to wants me to jump in a truck without delay.
Fingers crossed ;)

Well, did you hear anything from this owner, Twiggy?

Oh man, I looked up that company and with five trucks they are loaded with DOT violations. kinda weird how their violations were posted online but there they were and it seems like it's not a good fit for a new Otr driver. Also, the guy that they wanted me to team up with doesn't want to team up, but is basically being told to. So forget that.
I did take a team position with a fleet owner that runs with Panther. My first load went from cartersville GA to Edison NJ. Deadhead 54 miles to NY and picked up a 1450 run to Louisianna. Sitting at TA until Monday morning to do drop off.
My first thoughts of expedite.........kinda boring but I see the potential to make money is there. My biggest hurdle is fatigue while driving because when a call comes in for a load is random. It may be when I'm about to sleep so as luck would have it I did this first run without sleeping in over 24 hours. I think this is typical of the industry and by far the biggest adjustment.

You'll quickly learn to take an expeditor's nap. If you haven't gotten the load by noonish good idea to catch a three or four hour nap in the afternoon.

Kudos for looking them up - and for declining to join them.
As was said before, non household teams have a really high failure rate, but it's a learning experience that can be invaluable.
Boredom, whether while driving or waiting, is something you will have to find your own way to handle. I like audiobooks for the long stretches [usually at night], others like XM radio, or an iPod full of their favorite tunes. Just keep in mind that whatever you find to occupy the waiting time should be something you can drop at a moment's notice, when those 'random' calls come in, lol. And take a nap when you can! ;)

yeah, been sleeping at every chance I get. The first day was kind of an adrenaline rush so sleeping/napping was not easily achieved.
Sitting in west Memphis hoping for one of those random calls. Full stomach and eight hours of sleep and I'm ready to roll.

The call never comes when you are rested and full...it's when you go to a movie to kill time, right after u get a redox movie, or after u set yourself up to nap...my best tho was as jehovahs witness was at my door knocking and I'm hiding like noone is home, and windows we're open so I had to sneak to answer yet couldn't go far as my cell service inside house sucks....it's become a "you can't make this up" story...jokingly had to say I couldn't take load because now jehovahs had me blocked in my driveway...

Well, I spoke too soon. My dry box team wrecked the truck. They don't drive for me anymore. Now I have a freshly repaired truck sitting on the lot. :-/

Thanks. I'm hopeful I'll find a team for it soon.

BTW, I didn't see you at the expo. My partner won the 50" TV at casino night. It was pretty exciting.

Awesome now If your sleeper is big enough for it to hang it up well all come over for football!
