Rebuilding Detroit

Ain't gonna happen. The entire bunch will be arrested for something before they can start. It has to totally collapse now before it can be rebuilt, or nuked.

I think the kids that are in their mid teens now will bring Detroit back. The price of housing will push them there along with Detroit's central location and history.

I doubt that. They are far too busy doing drugs and asking for Obama Bucks and killing each other. I doubt if many can even read. Detroit was able to be saved 35 years ago, it's too far gone now.

There was an article a few weeks back promoting the idea of dissolving Detroit altogether and starting over. It may be time to do such a thing.

Get a twenty mile wide line of bulldozers. Line it up starting at the River and go west till it runs out, then flatten the place.

I read an article in the Free Press not long ago about the money problems in the D (I know, shocker). One of the comments shocked me, though. The poster mentioned that there's a museum or gallery in Detroit containing over a billion dollars worth of artwork, and that the building AND the artwork belonged to the city. Anyone know if there's truth to this, and if so, why do the rest of the citizens of this state keep doling funds out to them in the form of seldom-paid loans? I never dreamed of owning a Rolls while I was broke. Why should they?

Okay, maybe I dreamed.......but my reality was different than theirs. In other words, I grasped mine.

Personally I have hope and realize not all kids in the city are bad, doing drugs and want what you believe they want. There are many good ones or even ones that are now and will make some bad decisions in the future but still end up to be contributers in this world.

It is a sad thing to have absolutely no hope for anyone in the future.

Well spoken Xiggi.

I have saw the city come a long way since the mid 90's. You'll have good and bad wherever you go in every city across America. Detroit is a great city with a lot of good hard working people. The problem seems to be with those who focus on the negatives aired by the media who are out for ratings.

I say get out and experience what Detroit has to offer. Its a great place to go!

From a gang background most of those Detroit kids are just followers... What is lacking is good leadership and good role models

They need to "right size" the city. The problem is you have an infrastructure for 2 million that now has a population of under 750,000. The math just doesn't work. It will be a hard thing to fix.

Regardless of what the overall plan may be, it would have to start with tearing down the trash buildings and creating open space to work with, and they can't seem to do that basic, simple thing. Imagine the improvement that one , simple thing would be. While there are small pockets of the city that are decent, it's an overall craphole and I don't see that improving anytime soon, or even in 50 years.
