Thank the Republican National Committee. They foisted a very weak candidate on the nation, and they got their way. Just like when the Demon-crats couldn't win an election because they nominated ridiculous lose-before-they-start candidates like McGovern; Mondale; Dukakis; and Kerry, the Republicans have taken up that strategy with Dole, McCain, and Romney. They lost before they started. Many thanks to the voters of Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Virginia who foisted this disaster on our nation.
You should be able to include Bush in there, but the country was so sick of Clinton's Demon-crats, we would have elected a yellow hound if it had an R after its name, and the second go-around, he was a war-time president in office when America was attacked. If it weren't for those anomalies, it would have been Demon-crats straight through.
Now, that said, as has been noted, the Tipping Point--the point at which those riding the gravy train are numerous enough and powerful enough that they are shouting at those of us pushing to work harder so their ride isn't interrupted--has been reached, is there ANYBODY the Republicans could have nominated to beat the poster child for the Welfare State? Is there anything short of secession or collapse that can undo that now that that point has been reached?
tl;dr Blaming blocks of voters by state isn't the answer. The problem lies elsewhere.
