Ready for my own authority...

After running five years as an O/O for others, I'm ready for my own authority. I will be filing my single state registration with the state of Texas (SSR) and know I will have to have a NY HUT, comply with New Mexico and Oregon weight and mileage registrations. One major question has come up. The SSR includes 38 states. What happens in the states not covered in the SSR? I have searched the individual states DOT and DMV web sites, but they don't offer much information other than oversize/overweight permitting.

Thanks for any info on this or maybe a point in the right direction.

Please check into the SSR closely...I received a letter from NC DOT stating that the ssr is being replaced by the UCR (Unified Carrier Registration) mandated by the federal govt effective jan1,2007...
My letter was stating that the states had petitioned for an extension since it will be up to the individual states to implement the UCR program and , Naturally, the fed's haven't indicated exactly what they want so the states do not know what to do...
NC is asking for an extension until jan 1 2008...
FWIW...bd

I've been reading about the change since May, but in order to run until the change takes place I still need to file my SSR. I'm afraid everyone is going to have to deal with the new UCR rulings in time. I think I read somewhere they are going to allow individual states up to three years to decide to join the UCR or not.

Right now, I just trying to figure out the states not included in the SSRS. Does filing for the SSR for the participating 38 states also allow you to run legal in the others?

When I heard about the new UCR taking over, I was hoping it would be a federal thing and include everyone, but I guess not.

There are several companies that will handle this for you for a small fee. The fee will more than pay for itself when you find yourself not following the complexity of the ins and outs of the rules one must follow.

Please do yourself and favor and search one of these companies out so your ducks are kept in order and your allowed to make $ by staying loaded instead of filling and worrying about did I????

It is way to important and the rules of the different states make it mind blowing to keep up with, when there are companies that will take care of it all for you. Good Luck please continue to post on your success as you travel this path, we are all curious as to how this works out.
