I don't want to sound the normal but having to have 1 million general liability and 1 million vehicle it seems to me we should get a little bit more cash.

Not true. I will pm you information.

(2) Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or
(3) Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or

Re: CV rates and logging

"The Alliance" isn't a company or a true organization. It is a loosely bound group of companies with common interests. They do not issue equipment, charge or collect money??? Only the individual carrier does that. Thier is no collective program? I know of no hardware or monitoring fee that is $10 per month.

Unless you are talking about TEANA. That is a true trade organization, but again we do not do the things that you are speaking of.

I thought there is a way to get tracking that will automatically update your position on the Alliance system? I could have swore that there was a company out there that required this. However I might be wrong. Thanks for the correction.

John, after reading yor PM, I totally understand and agree from the "Carrier" standpoint the need to treat all units no matter what GVW the same under the Lease agreement and for insurance standpoint and to cover the liability that could fall to the Carrier.

Re: CV rates and logging

Purgoose,
I am one of the small guys that do business with more than one carrier. The partner carriers I am associated with are not any one of the big major expeditied carriers out there. They are the small mom and pop companies or freight forwarders near the airport. Like it was said earlier it is not that hard to associate with more than one carrier. As long as you don't reveal customers between companies. Keep the confidentiality amongst companies. But in my situation it works like this. I am affiliated with 4 carriers. I am willing to have theirs signs when I run for them on my van as long as its magnetic. Some companies don't even give me a sign for the van. But anyhow.....carrier A, gets me an outbound load from chicago to charleston wv. Now carrier A doesn't do much for back hauls so usually I would deadhead back home. While on the road, I contact the other carriers B, C, and D and tell them where I'm headed when I expect to get there and to find me something on the return. Whoever can produce first will get me loaded. I have been under a load with one carrier and been called by another with load offer but turned them down because I was not available.
There are companies who can keep you busy, and there are others who can't and the companies who can't keep you busy can't expect you to sit by the phone and wait, when you have a family to support, or bills to pay. I did drive for one of the big carriers or they're trying to be......I drove their company c/v and was paid 40%. They covered expenses and fuel. But they could not keep me busy, and when My dad who drives offered me a trip to KC from Chicago, I turned it down because of me "waiting" for a load with this other carrier and nothing came through......I told the guy the next time such a situation arises, I will take the load, and leave his company van in my driveway. Needless to say he was not happy and our relationship soon terminated...by the way, this carrier now says he pays weekly but when I drove for him, he paid me twice a month! HMMMMMMM!
It all depends on the carrier you partner with and your relationship with them as to whether you should do business with more than one company.

Re: CV rates and logging

I was thinking.....I know...*L*

Maybe instead of carriers bulling us into the issue...

They could devise a tiered program where rates would reflect the level of professionalism shown by the driver...

Wearing those shorts??:eek::eek::eek:

Questions such as....Do you log? Do you do Pre-trips? Would you wear a company shirt? yada, yada..Is your truck/cv clean, have you taken a shower

Company shirts, jacket. (No Signs on van)
Are you saying you log all the time?, do pre & post trip insp?

Why should some masked bandit..unmarked under the radar expect to get professional level rates when they are shirking, taking short cuts and not having the same expenses as someone who is being more professional and taking this biz seriously....

Just because we "run under the radar", what makes you think we cut corners, and take short cuts? Oh yea I'll match you're expenses and we will see who has or does not have the same..

on the flip side carriers should NOT expect those of us that comply to all their petty rules to run for less then stellar rates...

I didn't get any PM from John but I think from this disclosure, he looks at it as I have been trying to say it is.
