I don't know HOW my carrier figures the rate, but I do know what they are getting from each customer on each load, because I get a % of it and the total amount is given to me, the my % of the amount is shown and then they show the FSC which we get 100% of also....
So again, while I don't know how they figure it, I know how much they are getting paid....

I guess it depends on what kind of freight/customer you discussing. There are many different ways to get freight. Each of those ways will have different pricing, or should.

Well when I did the search and I can't find anywhere on here where a company posted the rates they are getting. Please post the link or search term you used where you were so easily able to find this information that you responded the way you did. I guess it was really easy for you.

I am wondering because if I am supposed to get a certain percentage of the load but I get offers instead is it because I am getting shorted or have the rates dropped so low the company knows we can't run that cheap. I was hoping one of the gentlemen that run a company or a driver that knows for sure might be able to give a range.

He asked what rates carriers are bidding. The bid board freight is going dirt cheap no matter how you look at it.
If your paid on percentage, I think you have a legal right to know what the load is paying to the carrier. Have you asked to see what they billed the customer on any of your loads?

I have not asked yet because I don't want them to take it as I think they are stealing. I am curious how they are able to make money on freight if they are paying the majority to the driver then have to pay office personnel. I am also working to make as much as I can and want to make sure I am earning as much as possible.

He didn't ask 'how' the rate is figured, but what the rates 'are' that are currently being bid for CVs for expedited and non expedited freight. Since you know the answer on at least some of the loads out there... why don't you give him a range?

Well if we are talking strictly bid board freight then CV's aren't getting more than 1.10 per mile unless the broker is desperate.

Thank you it is what I was thinking because sometimes they call and say they are bidding on a load going from A to B will I run it for X. It seemed to me they are trying to see how low they can bid and still make something. On the other side if they have a load already they tell me it is X miles I can give you X but I am able to counter the offer.

I am just worried I will cause problems for myself being that I have not been there very long and it is mostly curiosity so I can learn more about the business and make a more educated decision.

Just think of it this way, if the average load was $2 a mile for vans, they would still bid lower than others to get the load to produce the revenue.
The problem I see isn't with the shippers or the brokers, it is with a truly capacity saturated segment of the industry. If we removed maybe 50% of the capacity on the lower end of the weight scale, maybe the rates will rise but because this business does not have real obstacles to get into on the lower end (low start up cost, cheap insurance, etc. ...) we have too many vans running around taking what ever they can to make a little money at a time.

Now knowing the reason that the OP is asking for the info, all I can say is that we don't have this issue at Load 1..the intigrity of the owner and the company has shown through and as contractors we have built a trust that lets us do what we do and not to have to even question what we are paid....

Most of us at Load 1 simply take the numbers that are sent ( the total amount paid by the client, our percent (which differs from a minmum amount on up) that is paid to us the FSC and the total and we except it...as has been pointed out, we except runs without even knwing what they pay...

Much of it depends on where you are looking. On the low side, I see stuff going for .40 cents a mile. On the high side, I've seen 2.50 per mile. This is looking over the last month or so.
