Raised Roof and Room of G3500's

Hey all!

I've been out of the expeditor picture for about 3 years, but I'm looking to make my return. I've decided against the Sprinter (too expensive), and have opted instead for a G3500 series (probably used to start. ) Anyone out there know a place where I could go to have my Chevy G3500 extended van roof raised? Also, does anyone have an extended g3500 series with a bunk/inverter package towards the front of the vehicle? If you do, how much room is there in feet from the front to the back, allowing for the normal 4 skids of freight.

Thanks a bunch and hope all of you are doing well, espicially considering these nasty fuel prices.

If you can fit 4 skids in a 3500 Chevy van you are a hellofa guy. Unless you plan to put 2 on the roof, and you talk about a bunk too?

I've gotten 4 skids into my regular cargo van before, so I would assume with an extended van, I could do up to four (96 inches)+ have the sleeper as well. Am I wrong about this?

I would say yes you are very wrong. A standard skid is 40x48 and that is only one. A van is as you said 96x66. So how can you put 4 40x48 skids in a 66x96 space? 99.9% of the skids people ship on is a standard skid.

In fact a standard skid will not even fit in a 3500 sprinter, without elevating it above the wheel well, as long as it isn't to tall.

Just to back Tony up, simple math tells you that 4 feet = 48 inches and 48 inches x 2 = 96 inches. So that means you can fit 2 skids side-by-side in a 96 inch area. No way will you fit 4 skids in a cargo van. Just my 2 cents worth.

You're right...three years and I've forgotten a bit...but even with two skids, is there enough room to put a good size sleeper package behind the front seats with a partition behind that?

Thanks for the correction!

I am currently driving an extended Ford cargo van and I'm not sure how it compares to the overall cargo space in a GMC 3500, but I imagine they have a similar cargo length. I have a 2 foot bunk setup directly behind the seats. It is a bit cramped though. It does leave me enough room for 2 full size skids behind the sleeper. There are many people out there driving cargo vans that will use the cargo space to sleep in with a blow up air mattress or such. Of course this will not be feasible if you have a load on, but otherwise it will give you much more space. So it ends up really being your own preference as to how you want to set it up.

I have a Chev 3500. You can put about a 3 ft sleeper behind the seats. This will leave you with slightly over 8 ft of space for freight.

You can get a top raised on the van for about $2200.00 here in Knoxville.

Good luck

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know! Would you by chance have any pictures of your van? Would be great if I could see what it looks like!

Thanks a bunch,
