Are you running 3/4 ton or 1 ton units? Just curious. Everytime I pass a van I always remember to look after it's to late...

I think most here will recommend the 1 ton depending on the brand the 1 ton might have the bigger engine, better brakes, axles etc. Not to mention the 1 ton will allow you to carry more weight. Some forget all the goodies you take with you AC unit, generator, fridge, etc etc adds up fast in weight.

So is it a short ton, long ton or a tonne?

I can't see driving a van around that has only 2000 lbs of total weight capacity, can you?

Once you add the driver, the supplies and so on, you may end up with 1200 lbs of payload.

My GMs were 1 ton units for the load capacity. Current is a ¾ ton but with a decent load capacity. Altered insulation to lighter materials and carry less so lower loss of load capacity.

To think 10 years and still only on my 2nd van..hmmmm

Either way make sure it is a sprinter! Fuel economy alone is worth the price difference.

Well I have yet to find anyone at GM, Ford or Mercedes call their vans one ton, three quarter ton or anything like that.

"Salesmen still do because of the level of intelligence of the American van owner at large" (not my comment but it is right from the head of sales at GM).

Your cargo capacity exceeds 1500 lbs and 2000 lbs, which by the old standards were three quarter and one ton ratings respectfully.

It seems that you do not have a one ton or three quarter ton van, you have an E250 or E350 Ford, 2500 or 3500 Mercedes or GM product. When you register it, do you tell them I have a dodge Sprinter three quarter ton van?

I understand the 3/4 and 1 ton "speak' a greg said...also understand that there are different gvw ratings within each of those vans...that 4 different vans....

If anyone is going to buy a van, i can't see any reason you wouldn't buy the longest cargo floor you can along with the highest gvw you can get...why limit what you can haul when you don't have to...all you are doing if limiting your ability to make money....

I own a 3500 GMC Savana 9660 gvw long wheel base...
