i have a few questions,now i'm new to this scene,i have been a tractor/trailer driver for approx 29yrs,and decided to look into the expedite scene,i have 2 trucks i have in mind,that my son who is going thru cdl school now for the b,will drive one of them,but my questions are,what do i need for license,do i need an irp,and how about ifta,authority or mc#,i know i will need a usdot #. what type and how much on insurance is required.and what is required for truck besides annual inspection. help me out on this please,this is a totally different ball game then it is in big trucks.

As the Mootster says, same deal. Put the freight in the truck, take it to the consignee. The difference you seem to be talking about is getting your own authority. OOIDA would be a good place to go to get an idea of what's involved in that.

You got it. As far as insurance goes you will need Liability and Non-Trucking(Bob-Tail) insurance. You will also need a PUCO(Public Utilities Commission of Ohio) certificate, PUCO Tax Receipt which I think you would be able to get the information to obtain those when you get your authority. Also you will need to get your Unified Carrier Registration. If you plan on going through New Mexico you will have to register with them on their website. Hopefully that helps.
