yeah, I run a 24 foot strait 500 mile radius of Rochester / Buffalo NY area. I have a family and want to keep it that way and just in case I need to be home in a hurry I can make it happen.

any newbie gets the same old answer...."you only make 500 a week if your lucky" But these guys won't say how much??????? I would say they are dumb. If you tell other people that your doing good, then others won't do cheap work and the prices will go up. But everyone keeps secrets. Also they might get a good rate but only drive a few miles a week. these guys turn their phones off at night....hit casinos....and waste time. Only a few can run good miles. Very few! Team cargo van did 80k miles in 6 months. 60k $$$$ Thats what an average team does in a year. I know an old guy that can do 3500-4000 miles a week by himself. I don't now how but he does. When I hear someone doing better.....I want to do better! Most of these guys aren't making anything. Just cause they can't. They can't do the miles. That's ok but the same ones are on this site all the time while others are making the money.....think about it. You can't drive and write 20 posts a day.

Hmmmm. Try us. Most of us are working hard turning wheels on here. Some are desk jockeys who get to.sleep at home after driving their life away and are now the support team for their drivers.

You know Mr.Pope, when you been doin this a while, you figure out the key is not how many miles you drive..its how much you make per mile...in other words, as OntarioVanMans tagline says, "drive less make more".....Once you get with a good company that lives by that, you will have it made....:D

ok, i know ill hear about this and be told I am full of it or braggin, but here is last weeks numbers right off the fleetvison. No EM pay no Layover pay,., just pay to the truck for the miles run:

6 runs
240 DH miles
2725 Loaded Miles
2965 Total Miles

$3633.42 paid to the truck
$1.22 per mile All miles
$1.33 per mile Loaded miles

See how that works, drive less, make more.....

Oh, Solo in a Sprinter type unit....(Cargo Max...)

I believe you chef. That looks like good numbers. I was waiting to hear 1.70 a mile for 500 miles for the week..LOL That's good miles and hard running. You get A++ Most I do not believe can run like you! Except me and this real old guy. I still don't know how he does it. Yes sometimes miles do count........ so what if your doing 1000 miles a week for 1.22. If you could do 2500 miles for 1.00. what would you do? also the miles could keep you in the pipeline.....when your on a roll things keep rolling....you get in a rut and you get stuck. I don't understand that. Thank you Chef for keeping me in check!

You are going to have slow times and bad weeks , we all do no matter who you contract to..sometime the luck of the draw just leaves you out in the cold...2 weeks ago on Weds I had 2 runs of 467 miles and a little over $600...I called it a week on Thrus AM and DH'd home from Nitro WV to Toledo Oh on my own, no paid move or paid empty move..I went OOS, wrote the week off and was ready to start over sunday evening when i would go back in service..I was all done for the week and in a good frame of mind, I enjoyed the time with family...

This business has no "normal" to it, you can be on top of the world this week and in the gutter the next...That is why I tell new people to try as hard as they can not to look at each week..or even the month if you can..Set yourself up with a good cash flow to start that will let you view your business on a quarterly basis...then set your goals for each quarter accordingly...The 1st quarter of the yr is usually slow, I had a darn good 1st quarter, made more then last yr, ran less runs and less miles and was off 3 weeks....The 2nd quarter the goal was to surpass last yrs..I haven't looked, but I can tell you with the exception of that bad week 2 weeks ago, i am doin pretty good...but i won't know 100% until the end of the quarter because thats when I'll run the numbers....

As i said there is no Normal and what works for me or what my net is, is not going to be what works for the next person or what they need out of their business...I know for the most part i am not going to get 5-6 runs a week, more like 3-4 and that means ill be sitting and thats fine, its part of the business and there are weeks where I'll sit more then i drive loaded, but in the end, I know I will come out ahead, in loads run, miles run and money made...My carrier does a darn good job of keeping me doin what i like to do....:)

That is true dennis. I have experienced no normal in this business. We did some 4500 mile weeks and next week could be a 1000 mile week. Be prepared cause i wasnt and thought the world was ending. Got a different mind set this year though.

He shouldnt have any trouble keeping expenses under $1/mi with a straight truck unless he wants a new $200k rig
