Its really a fairly small, albeit impersonal company..To most, you are definetly a truck number.

You will be paid EVERY OTHER week. Their accounting has always been accurate.

I'm not in the van division, but their compensation appears to be on par with the rest of the industry.

If you are accustom to working with a central dispatch, well Nation's is a different ballgame. Working with about 10 or 15 agent offices(similar to Landstar), you have to be more pro-active in obtaining freight.

If you sit more than a day with this company and don't move, chances are you'll be sitting for a week.

They do not pay for any relocation, but they do pay fuel and mileage taxes for the D units.

It takes time to acclimate(adjust) to their system, but thats true with all companies.

You should contact as many Van Drivers as you can. Are they making any $ enough to support a family and a business? Start investigating cause the word I hear is that it ain't what it use to be.

It might help if you have the luck of the Irish to.

They have 15-20 dispatchers in dif parts of the country.
Some drivers call these 20 3xa day, some 1x. Some dispatchers say it really doesn't matter if you call.
You have satelite and they are supposed to know where you are.
Where am I on the board? That's a tangled web!
There really isn't a 'board'. Depends where you're sitting.
10 vans in one area, but not in the same trk stop. Who's closest to shipper gets the run. You can't be closest to every one who wants something shipped on a moment's notice. So you might lose out on a run because someone else is 1 mile closer. Yet you're all in the 50 mile or so radius. And maybe you were the 1st back in the area, yet you are the last to be called. When you finally get called it's for a 200 mile run. But, you don't lose your status if you dh back.
3 favorite layovers. Request that you dh to one of them because they can get you out of them, but not where your run ends up.
go out-come back.
You are at delivery. Call all 20 offices. 15 or more of them say they never get loads coming out of that area. 10 or more say they never get loads that deliver in that area.
2 of the offices are 24/7. The rest are M-F office hours.
Get to know all the drivers! And all the other companies drivers! All the FJ employees. Nothing else to do for a week at a time.
I said it before, I'll say it again.
How much savings do you have to start with? Can you make your van/trk pymts, buy fuel, make your monthly pymts at home, and just live out on the road, for a good long while? That will give you a pretty good idea how long you will last.
Complicate it all by driving for a fleet owner.
