Question RE FedEx Four Star Award

This is a question for the Four Star award winners. FedEx Custom Critical Four Star Award winners will be selected based on their performance from June 1, 2006 to May 31, 2007. With May 31 about a month away, I am wondering what, in ball park terms, run count number will qualify this year's top 50 contractors that will be invited to the recognition event?

As of April 30, our run count will be 99 or an average of 9 runs a month, for a projected total of 108 by May 31. While we expect to qualify for Four Star in all other respects, a run count of 108 is nowhere near enough to get us to the banquet, is it?

Sorry Phil you probably won't make it. Unfortunately run counts are the deciding factor and in many cases it penalizes W/G units. You may get 1 coast to coast run in one week that you have to wait for a day to pick it up, while some solo driver in Chicago knocks out four.Even thouigh your run turned more profit to the company then the 4 local runs, he is up higher then you.

This has always been a bone of contention. The company's response has been,"The local solo driver will then have more opportunities to have an accident(I question that one) and more possibilites to be late. I have always felt this was a lame excuse.

Can a driver win the Coveted 4 Star Award by Storm two years in a row? If so, then maybe soon we will be reading a post titled "The Vendetta II."

It is not an issue with us if we don't make it based on run count. We are pleased with the financial results. Award results are secondary.

I was not asking to see if we will make it to the banquet. I was asking to confirm that we probably won't. We'll use the award week instead for a personal vacation or to run, and the week will be scheduled by us, not FedEx.

While people report great times at that banquet and I am taking nothing away from that, it would be bad form to skip it if you are in the top 50. Yet I am not especially fond of the idea of taking a week off the road that we cannot use for ourselves. Working hard, making good money and not making the top 50 is the ideal solution.

Phil,

The actual run counts are not given by FedEx. When you talk to other drivers you will find that the counts are usually above 170 loads for the year. You can win as many times as you can keep an above 70% acceptance and in-service rate. You have to stay above a 98% pickup and delivery on time. You can also not have any preventable accidents for the year. All the above is a feat in itself. After you have achieved all of the above goals the tops 50 vehicles are chosen with the most run counts. I believe that depending on how many qualify there is a percentage of vans, C and D trucks, and then E trucks. We have found that each group seems to be represented in a equitable manner and that there is also a good mix of solos, teams, WG and also Express trucks represented.

The 4-Star is an great experience to meet fellow drivers and also spend time with FedEx representatives. The few days are worth every minute you are out of service. As you know this group does not often go out of service so FedEx really has to do something spectacular to get all of the over achievers to be there. This year the 4-Star is at the Venetian in Las Vegas and is supposed to be an even greater event then the Bahamas.

I'm glad you enjoy it and hope you get to read it several times every day. Just please don't start it back up again. We get too much bickering and junk as is without trying to resurrect deceased equines.

If you are a 4 Star Award winner - please speak. If you have not won the award...well you know what to do.

Lawrence, couldn't help it. But, I didn't get my first star, let alone four of the darn things. But, I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago and it's still the same. Rather be in the Bahamas myself. The drive on the wrong side of the road, makes it exciting.
