Hello I'd like to know If you want to Own a B-D unit and not drive It,Does the owner have to have a CDL,And how hard Is It to something like this. The reason I'm asking this Is because I'm now Disabled I loss my leg and don't plan on driving but thinking about owning a couple of units maybe...

Tec... I'm sorry to hear about your leg.

No, you don't need a cdl to own trucks. I wish you luck on finding good drivers if that's what you decide to do.

The only potential problem I can see in your situation would be getting a driver that turned out to be really awful and abandoned the truck somewhere. You wouldn't be able to go get it yourself. Other than that I don't see any possible problems with your idea. Good luck to you.

Abandoned truck retrieval has long been a problem with owners who didn't hire the right person for the job, or for the owner who created an intolerable situation for a driver. You could also hire a retrieval driver, but that might be cost prohibitive.

On the bright side, we knew a driver for Roberts Express that had no legs. He had two prostheses that allowed him to be quite nimble and adept at jumping in and out of a large (D) straight truck. All things are possible for those who dream big.

This might be a good time for you to start planning on visiting the March 2006 Mid-America Truck Show (MATS) in Louisville, KY. The visiting with expedite truck fabricators, sellers, and expedite owner/operators at the "Expedite Experience" section within MATS might help you with your decision

Just like Terry said, we met a driver for Crete driving big truck when we were all at a Freightliner getting serviced, and if he hadn't joked with us and removed his prothesis we wouldn't of known he had one. Spry, funny and what a great attitude!

I'm sure you have your reasons for discontinuing driving; I only tell you this to add not to limit yourself unnecessarily about expediting. It's a great business or career. We wish you the best of luck however you enter the industry.

I guess I was tired or my brain was partially on strike (a condition my wife would say is significant and constant but that's another thread) but anyway I just thought this morning if you got trucks with a 2 pedal automatic system it would be similar to driving your car except on a larger scale. I'm being presumptuous thinking you drive your own car although I know it's very common with people in your circumstances. Anyway, I just thought of the 2 pedal automatic this morning as a potential problem solver. Good luck.
