Question About Electronic Logs

I know Panther has been using electronic logs for a while now. If a Panther contractor or driver needs to access log book information from say six months or six weeks ago, how is it done?

See this post and this one for what prompts this question.

Hey A team. I'm leased to Panther after 2 1/2 yrs with FedEx.
You can access 8 days in the truck for DOT. You are prompted
to approve your logs every few days if not already done. After
that my guess is you have to contact safety. No way to keep
on the QC. I was apprehensive when we went to Panther. But
it is great for a team, no longer having to log where you are at
or fooling with times. Main catch is remembering to go off duty
after driving, the default when you turn off the engine is on duty.

Panther allows you to go back and change anything up until you
approve your logs, except for driving time, then they say you have
to call safety. That has never been a problem though. Hope this
helps.

Panther has a msg built into the qualcomm that allows us to request our logs to be sent to a fax number. We also receive a email every quarter from safety that contains copies of our logs that we can print out if needed. The system works great unless you lose the signal on the qualcomm.

Thanks for bringing this to the general forum.:D

Any other info or reviews of the EOBRs would help the dinosaurs like me get mentally prepared. The thread on the Fed Ex forum is like the blind leading the blind so it would be great to hear comments from the Panther drivers.

Since we basically live in our truck it serves as a work vehicle and a POV when not in service. What challenges (if any) does this create when you go to Walmart or a movie in the morning and get a run in the afternoon??

How does DOT check your log book during inspections?

When happens when you have no signal and need to change status??

Is this really a good thing for the drivers or just for the powers that be?

Thanks for any comments.:D

DOT can look I think a week back on the QC and we can hit button enter the scale # and they get faxed to that location. In two years it has been requested once or twice a crossed our trucks.
If you have no signal, it will update when it gets one.
As far as moving around and not under load, we can use a personal 30 minute conveyance to prevent a clock start up. You can also move I think it is 7/10ths of a mile and it won't activate either. The only adjustment is say a mechanic is driving it. Have to call safety to get it adjusted.
And already mentioned, old logs can be called up at safety and can be emailed or faxed. Most I think just do the monthly that Bamagirl mentioned. Don't know the exact period, but I think they go back several years.
Our drivers like them, and I am assuming the Fed system has to be somewhat similar.

DOT requires each truck to carry user instructions so they can view logs on qualcomm. If stopped at a scale we can also have them faxed directly to the scale or emailed to us and we can print them out in the truck. If the unit loses signal it will default to ON DUTY time which drivers can change to OFF Duty or Sleeper Berth time. We like the system although it did take some getting used to.

We had an incident a while back at a scale house in Washington State. The officer refused to come out to the truck to look at our electronic logs he demanded that we "bring them inside". The scale house did not have a fax so a copy could not be faxed to them and we had no internet signal to be able to have them faxed to us. Panther tried, but we just couldn't connect. We ended up sitting at this scale house until the officer decided to walk out to the truck.
That's the only time we hated electronic logs.

Phil I sent you a private message on all this a couple days ago. But I guess since you posted here now you got the same answers I gave you.
