QC and the Cold

Is anyone having problems with there QC now that it is so cold out? This thing is starting to get me into trouble. Load offers take 10 or more minutes to come over and just as long to go back. I have put myself out of service twice to take care of stuff at home but then they call me at night to take a load because the QC didnt tell them I was out of service? This all started happening just last week or so when it began staying cold longer.

I've noticed a slow Qualcomm startup during cold like we're now experiencing, but after a short warmup period of a few minutes, mine has always worked normally. My machine is several years old so perhaps the newer models react differently

I live in northern Wisconsin and after letting the truck sit for a few days, I get back to the truck and the status section says
bad 1200. After the truck gets warm, it changes to good or quiet.

My qualcomm is fine when sending or recieving messages but when I start up the truck it takes about 20 minutes for the black screen to disappear so I can finally see the message.

We have observed unusual slowness with QualComm. Our sent messages appear to send but many times I have to call dispatch because they haven't replied and they still haven't received the messages. I think it's the aliens. What do you think? You know, those little green guys delight in disburbing our way of life. :)

Kangar, You have a brightness control on your QC. when you have a black screen because it's cold just press the bottom left button on your QC to lighten it up.

No problem with the QC in the cold, but my Garmin won't stick to the window or to the disk on the dash.

Yeah you were right about my QC freight shaker thanks man lol!!
About the garmin just blow your breath on the bottom of the rubber suction to make it moist and it should stick to the windshield.

In the middle of a long run the other night, I stopped for a nap, and requested a wakeup call at 0200, just as a backup to my alarm. At 0228, I sent a msg saying to never mind, as I was up & running. One minute later, the wakeup call arrived, followed by a msg from dispatch saying it had been sent at 0201, and reported as received. I don't think it was due to the cold temps, as I was in Florida, or sunspots, which is my usual explanation for the unexplainable stuff. Sometimes, msgs just get lost in cyberspace for awhile, and it can be a definite PITA at times. Sure hope the new units, whenever they get here, will be better. Are they here yet? Anyone have one yet?

I don' think the cold affects Q Comm, probably atmospheric or other sunspot type disturbances. I had a very early Q/Comm address 458 made in 1989 and it was never affected by temperatures. But in and around Washington DC my polling location was frequently off.I attributed that to all of the government satellite activity going on in that area.

it takes 20-30 minutes for some of my buttons to work when its freezing outside, i guess only half of them need to warm up...

My problems with the QC are like Cheri's. I called panther and the guys that install the QC were really good about telling me where to take it locally to have it looked at if it kept acting up. I'll give it one more chance and it goes in. The only problem now is, theres someone on the space station wondering why I wanted him to know I was out of service today.

Hi

Makes you wonder. If there is life on another planet what do they think of us.
"Wake up call !!" "Are you rolling" "Out of service, failure to respond, call dispatch immediately" and "You are showing a 30 minute delay, please respond"

Ok now I see what happened to the load that got messed up last week.
Those out of space expediters got the message send it to Tims van to mess everything up then while he was headed to pick up load they turned there space ship into a van came down and got the load.
Isn't Maryland where most of the strange things happen on the X Files.
And here I was blaming dispatch.
Thanks Bryan

Cherri don't hold your breath waiting for the new qc's the tt n st will get them first us vans are always last getting anything new.

Wanna mess with dispatch? When they send you a message, answer it using the QC of the van next to you.
