If I were running this place..I'd wipe everyone out...and people would have to be approved to post...based on their contribution to the industry...and good posting habits.

So we would have four people who can post and everyone else could sit and watch?

Once upon a time there was someone who proposed a system where we would edit posts that have become off topic or didn't go the way the OP wanted them to. I fought that idea, made a few enemies over it, but I wasn't going to sit there and have someone judge each post for it's content or if it offended someone like the OP.

This is akin to that in my eyes.

The purpose of the soapbox was to relieve some of the BS and pressure from the other parts of the forum and it seems to have worked from my point of view - in some ways it has opened up EO so not to be the same old boring trucking site that plagues the thing they call the Internet.

If a member wants to just stick around here, great because they are still a member but if you want to make a big deal of caring what other do unless it actually detracts from the site, then I have to ask - you have a life beyond this virtual world we call EO? :p

If I was running this place, I would first reward my top posters - You too OVM. but I would also do a few things behind the scenes to make it a better and more pleasant place to visit which I won't mention because now I am bored with the subject ...

You name calling? Sherlock...;)
No, just a reference to Sherlock Holmes and his cocaine habit. He injected a 7% solution of cocaine and sterile water into his veins. I thought maybe you upped his recipe by 3% and that prompted you to post this nonsense.

There's a good chance your 10% solution will accelerate the spread of LOS Syndrome. Do we really need more double posters than we have now?

If YOU can figure out the problem, more power to you. It has been doing triple posts of late.

Now, you know that's untrue - there'd probably be an even dozen.

I fought that idea, made a few enemies over it, but I wasn't going to sit there and have someone judge each post for it's content or if it offended someone like the OP.

I'm firmly against 'judging' the content as offensive because it offends some sensibilities - anyone who disagrees is free to say so, and as long as they can say it without descending to the level of junior high, that's what discussion and debate are about.
Off topic is tough - it alienates those who haven't had a chance to post ON topic, pretty much ending the discussion prematurely - we ought to keep it to a minimum, so those who have something to say on the original subject don't feel they're interrupting a different conversation.

If that was the purpose, it's one I never heard - and as the first mod [along with LDB, back when each forum had 2 mods] I think I would have....it was created to be what it is: a chance to discuss issues of the day, and maybe show that whomever is on the 'other side' of an issue isn't necessarily wrong - everyone has their reasons, and here's where they get put out there. And some actually learn a bit about this & that, here & there - I know I do.

If a member wants to just stick around here, great because they are still a member but if you want to make a big deal of caring what other do unless it actually detracts from the site, then I have to ask - you have a life beyond this virtual world we call EO? :p

Define "life" lol

'Reward top posters'? Numbers mean diddly - it's quality that counts. Not that they're mutually exclusive - but focusing on numbers is too easy for simple minded folks to exploit - and you KNOW they will. Because it seems they love to exploit loopholes, bend the rules, 'fool' people, and laugh at how dumb we are for not knowing what they are doing.
As if.

There are some that post articles knowing full well it will cause a conflict...and the rest is history.

I am guilty of such a thing...but I do not use it as a way to provoke a fight....just a healthy debate....without the innuendo of stupid, arrogant, or ignorance...

Innuendo? Nah, if someone is arrogant, we just say so, straight out, because that's pretty offensive.
Ignorant isn't necessarily insulting - there are a lot of subjects on which I'm ignorant [like the Middle East debate] in which case I don't offer an opinion - but I read, to learn what others think.
Stupid is one we can think all we like, but not say, ever. Stupid is unlike ignorance: it can't be helped, and ought to be ignored.
