You're my Guinea pig :D you've already got all I imagined a gas 6 cylinder to be good for...if you keep driving it without blowing up I'll definitely have to adjust my attitudes

How far do you think/plan gas promaster will go?

Yes at this time i am going to keep driving my PM ... should be over 300,000 miles by mid-Nov ... earlier this spring and early summer i was going to buy 3 new PMs .. 1 for me .. 2 to put drivers in ... but RRE is not putting on any more spr-type vans then or now ... so i was looking at putting the other 2 on to a different carrier ... but with this crazy election going on I feel the other 2 PMs better wait till next spring ...
But mine just keeps running along .. i have changed a few headlights but nothing major .. only thing extra i do is every other tank of gas i put 3 to 4 oz. of Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in before fill up ... does it help .. i don't know but it doesn't hurt it either ... my dealer didn't have any 2016 year end close outs (3500) on hand so i am waiting on new purchase at this time ... There are people out here expediting with More miles on PMs than me .... we are just in No-Mans land as far as PMs go .. time will tell ..
Only other thing PM related i put 2 new Firestone Transforce 10 pls on last Nov. 2015 and they now need replaced after 110,000 miles ... Very Disappointed in them ... the other 2 were replaced late Jan. 2016 and have close to 90,000 on them but not as bad on wear ...all have been rotated ... Factory Continentals went 180,000 and 190,000 miles ..;)

Good to hear about the reliability...the diesels seem to be fixed up too, software updates, there's a lack of problems reported in the Promaster forum lately

My first set lasted about 200,000 then the next set half that, I'm convinced they cheapened the build

160" is too short? Same as what I'm driving, 2005 sprinter...if they could crack those 2014 sprinters with the 4 I'd do that
I thought Promaster was shorter than that. I've heard drivers tell me 3plts and no room in the back. Must have gotten bad info.
I have a 2014 PM. Its 153" long and that is to the base of the seats. With 3 pallets it is okay but they sometimes touch the back of the seats it they are tall. Took 5 pallets the other day, 2 sets were stacked. It was against the back of the seat but had enough room to get to the etrack mounted on the floor. So they were 5 inches inside the back doors.

It varies like everything else. I had 3 pallets a couple days ago, total weight 800lbs. It's like having a hazmat or anything else, the more you can make yourself available too the more load offers your going to have. Will you make 20 grand a year more hauling 3 pallets, nope. Can you make 6 or seven extra, probably. It can especially help when freight is slow or an area crowed with vans.

Sent from my SM-G925T using EO Forums mobile app
I get three pallets every so often. It adds to the paycheck. I also stay under 2600#'s but legally I could go 3300#. I have taken 2700# if the money was right. One month I lost 7 loads because of height. I was loosing too many tall loads and so bought the PM.

So it's a 2500?

I have a 2500 with 130,000. 2016 Gas. I had issue with the ticking in the motor and had it fixed last month. FCA covered the work. Otherwise been doing great. I have had it one year as of 10/13. I have 140 inches from back of seat to back door. I could have gotten 3500 ext and gained 14 inches and 600 more lbs for $6000 more so I didnt.

I know my minimums now...company says 162 inches long, 71 inches high, 53 between wheelwells and 3000 lb capacity (anybody with a 162" long Promaster? If not guess I'm buying a Transit)

For all talking about weight, I took 3011 in my 2005 sprinter and it was completely fine...23.5 MPG as I was babying it, ride was great and level at rear wheels with a couple inches above tires...much better than empty ride

Max. length in Promaster 159 inches in the cargo area 3500 size ....
Also you need to inform your Carrier that You can not LEGALLY haul 3000 lbs... in your long and tall 2500 sprinter ... maybe 2500 lbs. if you are running with bare minuminal personal creature comforts .. i just seen last week a Red long & Tall sprinter pulled over in Ky.. back bumper about 6 inches off the ground ... on I-75 north bound....

3050. Weighed at government scale. It all goes out the window with insulating the van, or having ANYTHING in it...(including maybe a full tank of diesel :D)

To browsing newbies, after I threw my stuff back in and weighed in was 388 lbs more (tools mostly and spare tire) so that only works from home if you know your base weight and travel with nothing

Oh and the carrier himself told me not to take it until I told him I'd stripped and weighed, the 3000 lbs loads won't go to me otherwise, that's just for if and when I get a replacement van

I have found that the difference between stripped and clothed is only about 3 lb, unless you're wearing steel toe boots

....oh you mean the van. Never mind

Charity's van aside, who's running a diesel with lots of miles? I like the proven 4 cyl and the manumatic, I dislike the flywheel problems, and dodge emissions bits...

There's always a Transit diesel to fall back on, but I don't need a higher roof than the door opening...

Unfortunately I can't get the post from A. Blair Enterprises about the 47 sprinters out of my mind...probably will sell this 2005 and get some money out while people are still paying outrageous prices for them...on paper at least, I could cut costs even more with the Promaster (besides financing) and ensure I'd meet all requirements for carrier/customers

I know, I know...but I didn't forsee actual MONEY in this :D (newbies close your ears I've got 10 years in, easy insurance and I know what I'm doing)

Dpfdelete fixes the problem on the Sprinter. Drive with confidence I've heard promasters have their issues as well. Any 300k promasters out there yet?

You're safe with your 05 Sprinter just catch problems before they turn tragic such as the harmonic balancer, black death (if you smell fuel and oil in cab you have it, inspect injectors every other oil change), change water pump and serp belt tensioner every 100k, synthetic oil every 10-14k with mercedes approval mobile 1 0w40 european formula works great if you're on a budget from walmart. Replace injector seals when needed. Fuel and air filter every 25k. Transmission fluid every 75k. Rear differential oil every 75-100k 85/90 mb approved. Run some good diesel injector cleaner on occasion. Pretty simple design just need to do the maintenance.

I've had enough loads to know I'll need the capacity. My sprinter's full front to back and top to bottom at least once a week.

I think it would be useful for us to post model and actual dimensions somewhere...i know there's drivers out there who have no idea, like the Sprinter driver who thought he was driving the extended, and was even parked beside an extended and couldn't tell the difference

From what I gather, in the Promaster you need a 3500 to get the longest and tallest...Transit you need to get the highest roof to get a few inches more in the door opening...Sprinter you have to make sure you measure it or eyeball the body curve at the rear sides, if there's not a foot behind that curve it's not the longest one...

I know some don't need the space, but for me it costs the same and opens up more freight

(Weight aside...a short high roof Promaster can take around a 4000 lb skid but I see more larger lighter loads personally)

Wheel base looks to be the same on the 170 extended model if you notice there is a extra two feet back there behind the wheels making the box around 16 ft I think give or take. Haven't really done much dimensional research on them but the new model arrives this summer hopefully they got the emissions issues right this time around! They will have to deliver around 30 mpg on hwy if they want to compete they will have to do it through efficiency like they did back in 04-06 there was nothing on the road with that space and MPG that could come close. It was pretty much out dated in Europe with the earlier sprinters coming out sometime in the mid 90's but ahead of its time in the US market.
