sometimes its crazy stuff but this took the cake, they sent us 154 miles to a pick up freight was suppose to be 52 high so im thinking it want work and im telling them this I get there and its at least 53 but even if it was 52 metal crate I cant get it in my best measures was 51 at metal to metal at rear opening they have it listed as 52 . so my questions is are they going off every van opening at rear or did they actually measure my truck, cause if so someone needs a tape measure class

Not sure what type van you have or who your carrier is or who has measured but it's up to you to confirm accurate measurements on record with the carrier. In my van I measured from the floor to the header bar and subtracted about 5/8". That was higher than the upper door latch but it only took a ratchet and two bolts to take it off. I had one load in 3+ years where I had to remove it at the shipper and cons to get the freight in and out. Good luck on getting it straight before next time.

I agree with Leo...It is YOUR responsibility to make sure dispatch has the right DIMs..they can be seen on Fleetvision or your Panthervision whatever you guys have....my door is 70" and I have it listed at 68"....do I lose a load? I don't care neither do I wish to know...but I've never had too tall
freight or the problems it brings....

In my experience I've found most shippers don't really measure....they never have a tape measure....when our carrier asks DIMs it is at best a guestimate.

The few times I ran across a no fit load or to heavy for my truck, after doing a lil research at the shipper it was found they use a computer to tell them the Dims and weight. Then we find the computer is still using last years model run on the dunnage and parts weight.
Exp: A set of shocks may have weighted 28 lbs last year but this year they are @ 33lbs. Also the height of the shipping containers can change with a new model run. not always the carrier or shippers fault this happens. Sometimes the blame can be traced to the guy/gal programming the freight.

I'd hate to tell you how many times I've had "1 piece at 1 lb", and when you get there it's several pieces, the lightest piece takes two men and a boy to lift one edge of it. The gal in the front office who placed the order had no idea of pieces and weight.

Oh, yeah, about those dimensions: 48" high at the doors, 52" between the wheel wells and 120" from the seat back to the rear doors. Anything bigger than that is gonna be trouble.

Hey underdog777, I agree with OVM and LDB. When I started with Nations, I put on the paper my dims. 71 H/50W/184L. At first I wasn't getting hardly any calls for loads. I knew it was slow back early this year but I didn't think anything about it until one of our dispatchers call me for a load and told me we had to double stack calls of my dims. I ask her why are we double stacking with three pallets.
She told me that my dims were the same but the Length was 140L. I told her that ive got 184L and I had to call home office and get that change and I ask why did my dims on the paper got change and I was told that the 184L was odd. Now im getting a lot more calls and a lot of loads now that everything is fix. I would have told dispatch ill recheck my dims and call you back. If my dims were right I would tell me that it wouldn't go and cant take the load.

Happens on straight trucks too.I was sent to Jacksonville, Fl wit a load 2pc 20' by 40" and 1,500 pounds. At arrival, the dims were ok but each piece weighed 15,000 pounds, total 30,000. They told my carrier they needed a flat bed, but got a 22' box truck instead.

SAt what point do you say nope ,you just drove 100 miles through tons of street level traffic in Philly at rush hour to add to it .you see the load is large machine non palletized, protrusions and wrapped in cello, it barely clears door opening height ,it's on casters so its a hand load with 4 people 2000 +lbs 60x70 @94 high you shove it all the way to the front wall strap it in blocked so protrusions don't get damaged, close door .get papers and see its a lg delivery!

Do the drive all the way 450 miles, arguing with the pimp about it ,extra money etc and not getting answers (again too many fat paws involved here) move forward to delivery now. They do have help 5 geeks in white coveralls clueless about what muscles are and it barely will fit on my gate which is 72 wide by 55 so we proceed this isn't gonna be very safe so as I start to lower the gate the geeks freak and shove the unit forward and push it off the front edge of the gate 2 wheels fall off unit jams on deck tearing off part of a protruding canister,oh boy!!!!

I tell em to shove it to the rear well here ya got 2 in the truck and 3 on the ground both pushing to their rear!!!! It's almost comical if it wasn't dangerous

Head mad scientist writes on Bol damaged upon delivery at which point I cross it out and wrote not drivers dage took my Bol and left! Let em duke it out later I documented it all I'm not at fault for damage after my kosher refer incident I should have turned it down I found out today another truck a Penske yellowman refused it te day before,as it wouldn't fit in his rusty faded truck!!!
Opinions?

If your talking only a inch what about the hook at the top for the door latch. Can you take it off to gain the inch. Bolt measured my rig when they gave it a safety check.

No wheel wells? What do you drive? I don't include the width that my wheel wells take up. Although I've had several loads that we placed on top of 2 pallets to accommodate a few more inches in width.
