yeah your're right 3,600, my bad. we both have CDL with hazmat. We are undecided about driving for o/o or buying a truck. We understand the pros and cons about both. Any idea what o/o pay drivers? We live in Minnesota and being on the road for long periods at a time will not be a problem at all.

Go in and read some of the posts from owners in the classified section. You can get a pretty good idea as to what is going on. If you choose to go with an owner and pay the fuel, insist on the entire fuel surcharge. Get a contract. While there are still owners out there who's handshake is a good as a contract they are far and few between. Same with drivers. The more you have in writing the better off you are.

My Son In-law just sold his FEDEX Home Delivery route after a company meeting where they were told that before long single route owners would become a thing of the past...he didnt want to invest more to pay another route or 3 or the Step Vans..so he sold for a good profit...he considered CC but only being married 2 yrs decided he didn;t want to be away from home as much as is needed, so he went to school (actually is in school for the next 2 weeks) to get a "A" CDL and is going to drive doubles for THE Ground contractor that bought his route.....

I joined FedEx Home Delivery when they started it up and left after the first year as did every contractor at our location.
Lots of promises and most turned out to be lies or half truths. We all started out in cargo vans and then they told us we needed larger trucks if we wanted to stay on. None of us were able to sell our routes, guess your Son in Law was lucky.
That and them accusing me of stealing packages and having their loss prevention guy follow me around and caught him snooping round my house/garage left a sour taste in my mouth.
Still part of the class action suit against FedEx. Oh well, live and learn.

He started with FedEx as a Home Delivery Driver for a contractor...then shortly after that, FedEx offered to sign him as the Contractor for the same route he was already working with no money out of his pocket except that he had to get a new stepvan....they wanted to get rid of the contractor the kid worked for so they basically gave him the route.

After the "company" meeting talking about doing away with the "single route" contractors, another contractor approahed him about paying his route and he ended up getting a real nice check from the guy and the guy also bought out his truck lease then had him run the route as a "driver" for 2 months then offered him a job in one of his "Ground" Tractors delivering a "dedicated" route...

It seems that this contractor has bought 12 home delivery routes in the last 18 months, and has 4 tractors running ground for "peak" time deliveries...not sure what the "peak" time thing means, but i guess my son-in -law will let me know soon enough...

The son-in-law wasn't overly happy with things at the "Home Delivery" divison after a while, but he stayed until this latest deal and he is thinkin he'll go back to school while driving for "Ground" ......he also mentioned that there are a few "class action" suits goin on and he just didn't want to get caught up in any of that IRS Employer/Employee thing ........
