Poor bidding practices?

You might be waiting a long time because there are a lot of real small carriers out there that can move freight for a low price and make money doing it.

This was mentioned in another post.. seems many of us are waiting for 'the other guy' to go away, but as far as I can see, it isn't happening..
Seems many must have had that esteemed reserve afterall.. or can run cheap and keep floating, like you said.
I don't know about anyone else, but I would've expected to see more fall off by now. Maybe it's not so bad out there as it's being made out to be?

As I mentioned in another thread, we have ppl coming into the biz as quickly as they're leaving. The new ppl are desperate, as well as a good chunk of those already here. Desperation causes the rates to plummet. When you have to choose between feeding your family and keeping the biz's rates stable, what would you choose? The wolves will eat their own cash cow. My opinion as I see it.

There will always be someone that will haul freight for less than what others will. This has been a problem created by the very nature of the business, competition.

And these small companies go belly up sell the assets to another company owned by the same people and it goes belly up, on ad infinitum the poor drivers that drive for them always get burnt but the people playing corporate musical chairs always come out smelling good.(maybe not like a rose per sa but fresh breeze or a nice garden smell)

I'm not aware of hardly any carriers, large or small, going out of business. Seems those exiting are owner/operators. In expediting, the carriers are mostly non-asset based corporations. They are purposely designed to survive downturns in the economy. The O/O on the other hand, carries all the burden incumbent with truck ownership.

Yes, they only need to make changes here and there.. cut back some staffing hours, lay a couple off, maybe drop a phone line or two.. they have lots of options in cutting their expenses, while the OO can only cut so much.

Maybe when a carrier has a defector and leaves, (Goes to another company) Then loose Lips sink ships .

Do you really think its good business practice to let that Crow-er back into the company they left.

Nope I don't.

On another issue, I Here A Lot of OOP are loosing Trucks right and left due to this Crises. As you know Nature has a way of cleansing it's self by the way of fire. Note once all the bramble brush is gone what comes back is beautiful green Grass.

Well I guess this is the way to get rid of the bramble brush so to speak. (Cheats, Liars, Swindlers) Get them out of the Business.

So this tells me something OOPS That bought them big trucks and now ask your self were you fare to the people you put in those trucks.
Did you reach in and take your 30% 40% what ever off the top and and not pay for the fuel and Tolls??
Did you put man and wife teams in those trucks with false perceptions??

How about handing out inflated 1099's to save your but because of a bad economy?? (There are those out here that do it.) But that's OK because those that did they soon will be cleansed any way.

Hey I'm asking question's so don't take it personal, But if this strikes a nerve with any one here then I need not say any more. Those that it does You'll back lash this post any way for all to see. Skeleton's in the closet so to speak.

Yup the economy is slow Every time a politician opens there mouth the Markets Drop.

People are loosing there Trucks because of the economy,
No money, Means no buying which means not selling so then ya don't need no people to work to make a product, which leaves no Freight to ship.
A symbiosis one depends on the other. Get my Drift.

Now China has called the US a Paper Tiger.
Oh so sorry that's another thread.

See I keep hearing, seeing, reading what ever, this mantra repeated allot on the forum but the used trucks hitting the market don't show that. It's not the guys with the really nice trucks most are POS M2s and the like not the decked out freight enabled campers that are so disdained by some.

I agree, I am looking at 'cheaper' trucks on the market but they are priced not like they should be if there is a real crisis.

The higher priced machinery I think may never appear in the classifieds because of the price class and the way some approach this business in the first place. It can be thought of like some sales of RVs where once you hit a certain price range, you simply don't sell your prevost on the open market or on eBay - different vehicle, different clientele.

Yes but even dealers whom one would think would end up with the repo's and there has been a raise of them don't get the nice trucks either they are full of repo'ed POS M2s and the like as well.
