It works both ways..In my mind I've selected a certain carrier to partner with on terms that THEY have set which are agreeable to me....to wence I will move their freight.

My carrier has been very diligent on this matter...they have informed us that if we didn't want them to swing the recruiting doors wide open that we should try to stay in service as much as possible and plan our PM time better.
That said I don't think pie in the sky...I realize a carrier will do what is best for them ...as I will do what is best for me...that is the way a real business works...

Geeee, hope you get a load soon, so you don't feel so RED

While I agree with ovm saying it is a partnership I've found many companies do not look at things quite that way. I've been through the trucking part, courier part and found expedite to be the best overall. Unfortunately many company owners seem to have forgotten we're working with them and not for them (like employees). So for many owners our (the brokers) interests are basically second or third or where ever down the list. You see too many companies hiring too many to cover everything everywhere and this is just creating a problem. While some do alright most others are in trouble or going there.

Lately I've witnessed an enormous growth in apathy and dejection and basically a bad attitude with brokers from several companies. I understand it due to the lack of work, sitting too much and the calls coming in are low priced. It seems both sides need to be reminded of the responsibilities each owes the other and start working together again.

Attitude is so important because it makes you better to work with.

Attitude is right. I got a lot of runs, because I treated the dispatchers with respect. I was working for Express 1,and could joke with the dipatchers, and make them laugh. On one occasion I got a call from dispatch to pick up a load. I said in a joking matter"What would I want to do that for"?...to which the dispatchers with whom I got to know them all said "because you get paid for it"....he was joking,so I said "Sounds like a good reason". We both was laughing about that. Another time I was woke up during the night, and had to pick up a load in Chicago to go to Detroit. I told dispatch "Did you hear that during the night, they moved the whole town of Chicago next to Detroit?". His reply "Looks like you won't get any milage from this run then"? I never got upset if they told me they didn't have a run right away. I saw guys get upset with dispatch, because they couldn't find them a run. I appreciated the time off,and I let them know it didn't bother me...but the funny thing was dispatch would be calling right back with a load.! Very nice people to work with at Express 1.
