You made the statement below without knowing if there is any real difference. How can you make a claim of what a person needs with no idea if what they do.
Just like the drug laws it will accomplish nothing to ban certain guns. Will we ever learn.

No, you don't need regulations. Regulations are nothing more than nuisances to honest citizens. You punish those who need punishing via legal statutes, laws that restrict actions society deems illegal. If I can't have my semi-automatic rifle then you can't have anything larger than the 6 ounce cans of beverages, no more than a 2 gallon gasoline tank on your vehicle, no more than 2 cylinders for it's engine and a governor that limits you to no more than 30mph maximum speed. Your electricity can only be active a total of 6 hours per 24 hour period. Your furnace can never be set higher then 60 in winter and your a/c can never be set lower than 85 in summer. The list can go on and on and on.
It's all ridiculous, putting regulations and restrictions on the many many many many millions of honest responsible citizens due to the actions of a few who abuse their rights and their privileges. You make consequences so severe for those who violate the laws that only the criminally insane will violate them. We don't need any regulations or restrictions on our rights, just common sense.
A hand gun can be a semi auto. The type of gun really has nothing to do with holding capacity that is all in design and can be worked out regardless.

I understand the point you are making ..... but why does todays society need anything more than a hand gun for protection and a rifle for hunting?

omg, and I detest that phrase but what else can you say but omg? Why should any law abiding citizen be limited on ownership of any legitimate legal object that they want to own? Why do they need anything less than anything they want?
Does a car having a v-8 engine cause someone to drive drunk and kill a family just because it had more cylinders? More horsepower? More occupant capacity? No no no no no no no no NO!!! None of those things have ANYTHING to do with an individual misusing and abusing an inanimate object.
That's the liberal left position, the anti-American anti-Constitution position, the government controlling citizenship eliminating goal of the current regime. Find as many people as possible who don't know anything about guns and don't know anything about what they are talking about but can be made to think with their feelings rather than their brains and fill them full of talking points and mis-information so they'll say what the regime wants them to say and think what the regime wants them to think and support the fallacies and foolishness of gun control.

ALL, (legal), guns are semi-automatics in this regard. It takes a pull of the trigger each time you wish to send a bullet down the barrel.
Fully automatics have been banned for many years, and rightly so.
The fact a rifle is customized to look like something other than "The Lawman" used on tv does not change the basic operation of the weapon. It is a SINGLE shot rifle.

Whatever is banned from the People should FIRST be banned from the police. The military should NOT be allowed to deploy banned weapons within the bounds of the United States.
At the church in CT King Putz the 1st stated that NO citizen should have a rifle as "powerful" as a military weapon. WELL, he is either a bigger fool that I think he is,OR, he hopes most Americans are. The 5.56x45MM round is quite wimpy as far as rifles go. So wimpy they are not even legal to hunt deer with in several state because they don't kill as much as maim. Which is what they were designed to do. The Pic below shows to rifle cartridges.
The one on the left is a standard for deer hunt. It is a 165grain boattail softpoint 30.06. It was first used by the military in 1906. The one on the right is the 5.56X45mm 62grain FMJ. The standard round for the M4, M14 and the AR15. WIMPY!!
