Please help newbie with advice

Hi All, This is a great site! I am looking to get into expediting witha cargo van. What I want to do is drive Tues. Weds. and Thurs. of each week and be home the remaining days. I am looking to make around $1200.00 per month. Is this possible, Are there any companies around that will work this way? Any help would be great.

Expediting could present problems with that schedule. My advise would be to look at either local couriers, small package, or freight forwarders close to the airport. There should be plenty of work for you in the Detroit area.

Good luck, but answer one question. Would you really turn down $500.00 on a Friday? I know I would'nt but like my mom said to me "not everyone thinks like you." Boy that hurts.

I guess the days will not be specific, but is it possible to only be out 2-3 days per week on avearge? I just dont want to be out for weeks at a time

Just about all of the expediting companies want you to be available 24/7.

If you are in Detroit, you probably will not have a problem signing on with somebody. There are a couple companies in the Detroit Metro area who will take just about anybody, as long as they can drive and are reliable. They both rely heavily on local freight, which is not always good for the driver, but in your case, it may be just fine. Drop me an email, and I can give you a recommendation. Well hell, Ill just tell you.....try First Class for starters. They are out of Rochester Hills. I worked for them, and you should have no problem with your financial expectations as you stated in your thread.

As it was said in a post before, you will never know when a good load is coming up. In my case, I am home most sundays and every monday, as it is DEAD at my company on mondays. Therefore, I know that I will start on tuesday for sure, and might not be home for the friday night movie with the family. The money per load is all what counts! Good luck!
