Please Explain Difference for me

Hi. Could someone please explain to me the difference between a Expediting "carrier" and a "broker?"
Not sure what the difference is. Thank you for help.

A Carrier and Broker are different in authority insurances and responsabilities. Here is the breakdown.
Brokers typicaly do not own trucks they own the shippers or customers if you read your contract that is why there is a non compete clause, and they can sue you if you break it. Also, a good broker pays you the carrier for service. B.T.W. My favorite brokers pay well and on time:D
Basicaly, All they need is brokers authority, an address, a phone number, and a customer base.

A Carrier has thier own MC number, or authority, owns/leases, opperates, insures, and maintains the equipment and freight. Pays for fuel, drivers, lumpers, wreckers, repairs, the list goes on.
Carriers can book loads directly with a shipper or broker, gets paid or screwed from a shipper or broker carries all the liability if somthing goes wrong. Carriers are also the one to blame even if the broker screws up. Yep, allot of brokers will put the screws to you so be carefull of who you do business with.

If you become a Carrier or broker say no to cheap freight. If you become a broker treat your drivers with courtousey and respect, pay them on time and fairly, and you will make money.
Rember don't play Carrier or Broker if you dont have authority F.M.C.S.A. has been cracking down on this and the fines are heavy
