Garman, you say you go with the lease because it keeps your payment lower. The problem, as I understand it, is that when you turn the truck in you are responsible for any shortfall between what's been paid and what the truck brings. I have never leased and never will so I could be mistaken. The reply that I think will be directly between your post and this reply when I hit send by username Gunslinger should be taken advantage of. That's Jon and you can take whatever he tells you to the bank and when you walk out of the bank you'll have more in your pocket than you would otherwise because he isn't going to screw you like a lot apparently do. He's one of the two individuals you should talk to and trust. Give him a call and visit with him. You'll definitely learn helpful things and have the best opportunity in getting equipped. Good luck.

Yes, there's at least one price guide for used trucks -- maybe more than one.
I've used the "ATD-NADA Official Commercial Truck Guide."
The cover is not blue, but the book is a price guide.
(ATD = American Truck Dealers;
NADA = National Automobile Dealers' Association.)

My apologies, Garman. I got your post mixed up in my mind with someone elses. You are not asking people to tell you what to do. Me saying you were was a mistake on my part. Sorry.

Still, I believe that it would be a mistake for any expediter to lease a truck under any circumstances. Just my penny in the pond.

I both own and lease.Advantage to owning is obvious.Paid for and the deal is done.No residual.One drawback to owning is the depeciation lessens with each year over the life of the loan.With leasing,the monthly payment is treated the same as a rental,a total business write off for the term of the lease.
My lease units are running about a $13,000.00 pay off($25,000.00 down,$1500.00 payments,most at 7.5% rate over 60 months)
Ofcourse,WG equipment has sky rocketed.All my trucks are 2005 and under.I will build my own trucks from this point forward,(a recent decision)
God knows if I don't know enough about straight trucks by this point I should hang it up.
Treat your first truck like a family memeber,be kind to it,and LISTEN to it.They have a way of knowing just how much money you have in your checking account.Try to pay tires,repairs etc. cash.Don't run up the credit cards,a sure killer for small trucking business's.
Be kind to the bottom line,don't confuse the top line for profit.
