Somewhere on one of these threads I read yesterday a driver posted regarding Dispatch.
GPS
Looking for own loads
If Dispatch cannot find you a load in 2 hours he is on the phone
Dispatch works for me
The last line is the one I would take refrence to.
This is not the truth, if you think that you are in charge and take that attitude you will be very sorry, and more importantly unsuccessfull! Now with that said if Dispatch does not work with you than go find a company that you will be happy with.
If I were to take that assumption that my dispatch is working for me it will only reflect in a bad attitude and result in poor #s. I have worked very hard over the past year and half to build a reputation of a go to guy. I want them to depend on me as much or more than they need me. I try to see their side of the issue as well as mine. Yesterday I turned down the first load of the year and it worked out great, last night 10pm they called with a load 90 miles from the house, its a 878 mile run, Monday AM delivery.
So it works both ways, and this is a Team effort, not just whats in it for me and me only. If I do not make my company $ than they go out of business, we both have to benefit for this to work. As for securing your own loads, I would ONLY do this for going to the house after they have failed to find a load and its time to go home. And only then. Just my opinion, but its worked and worked very well for me.
