I heard on the evening news that the land border crossing passports will not be mandatory until June 2009 (2 national networks)reported on Tuesday evening. For air travel, the mandatory has been moved to Jan 2008. They are requiring for air travel to show proof of application though. You can go to gov't web site to confirm this.

my 15 yr old sons name popped up last xmas holiday flying to/from calif. after deciding he did not pose a threat we were able to get a boarding pass for him. my wife and i already had ours and he was ticketed as a minor.
it is nice to know tha expired passport is still good for identity for job application even if the hair had gone red to grey and 15 years have passed. 15 years??? yikes!!
