Panther Policy toward Pets and Passengers

Can anyone please explain or provide me with any info concerning Panther II's policy toward pets and passengers?

I am sure I probably should post this in the recruiting forum but thought I might get a quicker answer here due to the weekend.

Would also like any info concerning T-Val and if they have restrictions concerning the color of the unit?

Thanks

my experience with panther was in 05 so things may have changed. then the passenger had to be 18 and they had to fill out a questionaire and send in a copy of thier driver's liscense/i.d. card and i think maybe social security card as well in turn for he passenger card. like i said it may have changed.

I am not authorized to post Panther's policies on this forum. But I can suggest you call Panther's Safety Department for forms and questions, because you first must obtain written authorization for passenger(s).

I believe you can have pets, but be aware that some of the places you would pick up/deliver to don't allow pets.

Dumb Question;

Are you an employee of panther or anything to do with them?

I am a contracted driver for Panther. I do not set policies for them nor do I enforce them. Interpretation of policies is between Panther and their drivers not driver to driver. So I choose to let Panther explain what they've written. If I posted their policy on this forum, it would only evoke a post for debate. A post I want no part of.
Thanks for asking, at least that is what I interpretted you were doing.

I never thought about the shippers/receivers not allowing pets. Glad someone mentioned that, though I can't imagine what I'd do with my cat then. As it stands now, he'll be co-driver! :)

I never had an issue with my hound dog. Some places just don't want them out of the truck. Some places love them and let you bring them as you unload. You can even have them running elite services BUT some bases you goto will not allow them on base so you need to be team so you and ur dog can be left at the gate. I loved having my dog, walked almost 2 hours a day and kept me company.

Panther allows pets. Depends on the owner you drive for. We allow pets in our trucks. If we have a shipper or receiver that does not allow, one of us gets out with dogs at the gate. Has never been a problem.

Passenger Insurance requires the passenger to be a minimu of 18 years old. I believe the cost is 7$ per week. Noone allowed as passenger without coverage.

No matter what Panther's policy is towards pets; if you have a pet on board and you are sent to Canada there are rules to bring them across:

Domestic or pet dogs may enter Canada if accompanied by a valid rabies vaccination certificate, which is issued by a licensed veterinarian(2), in either English or French and which clearly identifies the dogs and states that they are currently vaccinated against rabies. This certificate should identify the animal as in breed, colour, weight, etc., and indicate the name of the licensed rabies vaccine used (trade name), including serial number and duration of validity (up to three years). Please note that if the duration of validity is not indicated on the certificate, the vaccine will be considered to be valid for one year.
There is no waiting period imposed between the time the animal is vaccinated for rabies and the time the animal is imported into Canada.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the animal arrives at a Canadian port of entry and does not meet the requirements above, an inspector will order the owner-at the owner's expense-to have the animals vaccinated against rabies within a specified period of time and to provide the vaccination certificate to an inspector.
Rabies vaccination or certification is not required if the dogs are less than three (3) months of age.
(1) An official government veterinarian is a veterinarian who works for the government veterinary service in the country of origin.

(2) A licensed veterinarian is a veterinarian who is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the country of origin.

Rob is correct and you need to talk to your vet about the identifying marks. We have a blond cocker spaniel one of at least a million! She does have a few cute white spots on her chest and on her chin that we ask the veterinarians office to please identify on her rabies papers. You also need the actual papers not the tag as the tag could be any dogs. We have never had any problem crossing the border with Molly and have never had to show her papers but they are there and ready if the need ever arises.

Yes, although noone asked about border crossing...and rather than post all the legal crap to make it sound so much harder than it is, all they require at border is the current rabies vaccine and the paperwork showing date of last vaccination, Keep in mind that even if your pet is vaccinated for 3 year vaccine in states, Canada only recognizes the 1 or 2 year so you would have to have them vaccinated again after 2 years. We take our Siberian Huskies (2 of them) into Canada all the time have never had an issue. We keep their paperwork in a purple plastic folder...easy to grab for the border. We have drivers with cats and dogs and none of them have had a problem.

I've been across the border tons of times with my hound, sometimes with him on my lap. Never have been asked for papers, going in or going out. Though I carry record from the vet with his picture on it.

It would be best to check with FedEx Custom Critical recruiting regarding TVAL and truck color for an official answer.

As I understand it (and I may be wrong because policies sometimes change), a FedEx Custom Critical truck can be any color, but to display the large FedEx logo on the truck body, and thereby recieve the extra pay for doing so, the body must be all white. The cab and sleeper can be any color. Graphics, if any, must be in good taste. The same rules apply to TVAL-qualified trucks.

I didn't think that posting the exact regulation from the Government of Canada website is "legal crap". If you read the legal crap you would exactly what Canada recognises.
I posted it as a service to someone who was apparently considering traveling for Panther with a pet. Panther trucks are often sent here so I thought it would be a useful comment.
You are correct though; keep the vacinations up to date and you should have no problem entering Canada with your pet.

(by the way, on one discussion forum, a pet "owner" posted that since he didn't trust vets he innoculated his pet himself. Self done innoculations would not be allowable as the vaccination slips would not be properly completed.

Rob, I really appreciate your posting the actual regs, because that's what we have to know. All the hearsay in the world won't help if you don't follow the law, so thanks.
