If you haven't heard or tried yet, Panther II has banned us from www.getloaded.com. I called them up and they said only they can access it now. If we get enough driver complaing may be we can get it back...

Dumb question, being an independent contractor how do they ban anyone from providing a source of income to you and them alike? I mean that this would have to spelled out in your operating agreement and specifically pointed out during recruiting and oriantation what not to do. the way i am thinking is that if they allow you to book a load and take a percentage, they have no right to tell you anything. If a number of panther o/o's are using this to find backhauls and they come do something like take trucks out of service, it spells a problem for them - not the o/o's. The only thing I can think of is that Panther is bidding on loads and underscuts the drivers or they are going to aquire getloaded.com.

I'd have to find out just what's going on with that. I don't believe they can say what resources can and can't be used, at least not without risking independent contractor status of owners and drivers. I have heard they don't want you booking loads like that if you haven't been in service at least 2 weeks running regular jobs. I can understand them wanting trucks available to the regular customers but if someone has been out a while and either needs to get home or isn't moving I can't see them objecting. It may be a case of a few abusing privileges and spoiling things for everyone though.

My quess is that drivers were abusing it, but I don't know for sure. At any given time you had vehicles posting on there, get a load, and then leave their information posted. Then, the only number provided is Panther's backhaul number.
What does that mean? It means they are fielding calls all day because people post their truck and don't remove it. On the upside, most of your profitable runs are not usually obtained through GL. The decent loads never make it to a board. As far as their lease, I don't recall anything about that. I quess if you wanted to know loads for an area, you could call them, and they can tell you what is there, or sign up for your own account.

Leo,
I don't think they object to using that service, just not using their account. My quess is the same in that many were abusing it.

That's kinda weird, because I was at a straight truck oreintation a week ago, and they encouraged you to use getloaded.com for backhauls. They did say to get your own account though.

I bet those are the two key factors. They want you to sign up on your own and not post your truck but read the load offers instead. I used it about 4 or 5 times last year when I ran for them. I had special events with my daughter's senior year or other things I absolutely wasn't going to miss. The very worst case was a job that paid 5cpm above costs but it got me home with a few dollars extra instead of full d/h money out of my pocket.

Sorry for the misundertanding on that. You can get your own account ($35/Month) but you can no longer use thier account. Which I would think would mean they would get more calls instead of 2 or 3 for posted trucks. Now if I'm stuck somewhere or have to get home I'll have to call them 3-5 times to check on if there is anything avaiable.

Leo hit the nail on the head. Landstar Express had a few D units that only hauled sister company loads because they could double up and make more money. Nothing wrong with that but express was making zero on these loads, now Express takes a cut off the top, then the sister company takes a cut and the broker gets their piece of the pie, leaving much less for the driver. The D units were only working the system for their advantage but it messed it up for everyone.

Just a thought .. But there seems to be a sea change with these companies scrambling around, with FSCs ..fed ex starting a new what ever it is they re doing .. my point I guess is I think this Ford, Gm debacle has our companies shaking things up .. And being "profffesional business owners" A term they like to use when they want us do things, but somhow not fully in their loop when things change..My news letters are filled with pap... no real information .. just info about trailer maintenance , anniverseries, and a hardy congradulation, or welcomes to this person or that. As a business owner,, I want sales stats I want load counts, are they up are they down ..I want my business parteners to (The panthrs, conways , tristates) to give me real info.. their is a change in tthis business goin on . the tide is slowly changing .. where is it going ??? your company gonna let you in on it??? are you part of the decision process, or just the recipiant of it ...Everyone needs to post their contracts, and fcs, let us scrutinize whats going on, this is the only way we can stay iformed, and have some controll, over our situation.

I agree, Joebob. But these companies aren't going to show you their homework. You're better off doing your own. God forbid they have contractors who can make INFORMED decisions. Then they'd feel they have to answer to us.
