Panther Fuel Discounts :)

I have been out on the road the last few weeks seeing how Panther is since we moved all the trucks to Panther. I will say the fuel discounts that they have set up with the TA is a very good one. We saved in the one truck I drive in almost $600.00 over the last two weeks. We now have asked our drivers to use TA truck stops all the time.

Those discounts are very similar to the Fedex T/A discount. Some locations are identical and others are a few cents different depending on which carrier is fueling. Overall they work out to about the same. Anyone running for Fedex or Panther and not buying fuel at the T/A is throwing away around 30 cents per gallon.

What kind of truck saved $600?

$600 in savings in two weeks, holy cow, thats great.

Lets see, $600 divided by .30/gallon = 2000 gallons.

If you are getting 8mpg you must of got 16000 miles in two weeks,
if you get 10mpg you got 20,000 miles in two weeks and if you get really
good milage like 12 mpg you must have been dispatched for 24,000 miles in two weeks!!!!!!

man o man, might be time to follow Bruno, he's racking up the miles.

With my TA fuel discount, and my fsc,I probably shouldn't advertise this, but I'm almost running on the fsc.Been gone from home 9 days.6 loads, actual fuel money spent,2366 bucks, fsc for the 6 loads was 2070,my fuel cost for the 10 days, after fsc was 296 dollars, and that was for 5704 actual miles, home back to home. Not bad for just under $10000 revenue.

I think the average for a careful buyer is more like 36 cents a gal. and he said a little less than $600 so that would be more like 1600 gallons, still a lot of fuel. That much fuel still must be either the weekly #1 loaded miles truck or the weekly d/h leader or one of the worst mpg trucks in the fleet.

2 weeks at little less than $600, lets say $550 Divided by .36 = 1527 gals.

1527 x 6mpg = 9166
1527 x 8mpg = 12,222
1527 x 10mpg = 15,277
1527 x 12mpg = 18,333

9166 for a month, I can see.
12,222 on a very good month I see.
15,277 .......starting to hurt my head.
18,333, well get the vasaline.

But, hey this was for two weeks.

Oh man, my ribs are killing me.

No I'm not doing 20,000 in two weeks. Been avg over .51 cents off the pump price. The lowest was .40 cents the highest was .63 cents off the pump price. We did 8253 total miles in 15 days and bought a total of 1006.463 gallons of fuel plus filled the truck up when we came home with 131.522 gallons. So we bought 1137.985 gallons with an avg of .51 cents off the PUMP price which saved us $580.37. This Truck gets under 8 mpg because the truck has no APU on it. Plus TA give anyone .07 cents off the pump price if you pay cash for starts. So You could say the Panther discount is been around .44 cent avg.

If I had a truck do 9166 in a month I would be very disappointed, when you consider around twenty percent deadhead. 12,222 miles in a month would be somewhere around 9800 paid miles and using $1.70 per loaded mile, that would give you $3,874.00 per week. For a team at Panther that is under performing. I guess there is a reason you are in pain, but it ain't from laughing.

Are you saying that you have never done 3200 paid miles per week 2 weeks in a row? I hope not, dang I have run that as a solo.

Diane and I first learned of the FedEx Custom Critical/TA fuel discount months ago by word of mouth from other contractors. We immediately called our friends to make sure they knew too. Official notification came soon after.

The best thing about this discount is it reduces our operating costs, making it possible to accept a wider range of load offers while still maintaining profitability. In other words, the cost savings we receive are being passed on to our customers and improving our acceptance percentage.

There is nothing new, secret or exclusive about this discount. One night at a fuel desk at a TA, a Prime driver was talking about his discounted fuel prices, which were the same as ours.

I don't know how long this discount will last but we are enjoying the benefits while they are available.

Here is the stats from a truck that was on with FedEx which is now on with Panther and is doing just as good on some weeks or even better. So a team truck can do over 20,000 miles in a month if they work the whole month which this truck didn't. This truck is also a DR unit with a liftgate. The one I posted the number on is a dry box with no liftgate.

Dang jaminjim, i see were you are comming from.

$1.70 / loaded mile, no way man, i'd quit if thats what this job paid.

i easily average over $1.95 for all miles. Now i do admit, i've only done a little over
10,000 miles as of closing my books for Oct this afternoon. I know I know thats only a little over 2450 miles / week.

I get road weary so I gladly shut the month down when i hit $25,000 0n the month.
I wish i had your endurance to run all those miles.
More power to you.

That's very good pay, I congratulate you. But (you knew there would be one didn't you?) 1st. Apple to Apple, we are not running a $200,000.00 Plus truck. 2nd this is just me, if I'm out on the road I would rather be rolling for money as opposed to running 1/2 the time. 3rd it would take some math time but before I would buy a single truck that was over $200k I would rather buy two $100K trucks and make money with them. Thats not to say that the people running T-VAL trucks are wrong, just not my cup of tea.

Based on 1.95 and 1.00 in the Fedex forum, the average is probably somewhere in the middle. Have to agree with Jim, now a days you can run a dry van for close to that same number with half the investment if the team has some qualifications.
Pretty much the reason I sold our last reefer last year.
But there is that handful that like them which is ok.

i was just commenting on some numbers you tossed out. nothing personel.

we all have our cup o tea.

happiness and success can only be measured by ones desire and needs, not anothers.

and i believe that $180,000 in a dry box is just as strong as $240,000 in a DR.
gotta know the costs.

but, if both trucks are paid off, well i'll take the $240,000 route.

drive safe.

Davekc,
are you saying you can or have dry boxes running at mid 200s? or that the profit they will turn will rival a DR unit becuase of cost variance?

i keep going back and forth, dry box, reefer, dry box reefer.
the initial cost over the term for pay-off and then the earning capacity after pay-off.

do you keep your units past 5 years or try to stay in newer units to keep costs down?

Most reefer trucks are not running in the mid 200's
Doesn't mean that you haven't got to that, but no......certainly not a average.
I have looked at too many fleet owners revenue over the years to know better. Including my own.
With that said, the investment vs the return on a reefer truck will never equal that of two dry boxes.
Just not doable because of the coverage.
As far as rates, we broker some (certainly not all) loads at that 2.00 a mile mark now.
Just on the basis of rates using a model of 3.00 a mile verses 2.00 would put it simular because the two dry vans will carry a higher operating cost.
That offsets because they will have better coverage.
Of course....assuming all things equal.
Any kind of exception of course can be thrown in.
I even gave the dry vans a rate of 1.20 and a 30 cent FSC for an average. Most would likely run at or above that number.

1-800-494-3835

For those that do not this, this is the phone number you can call and insert the store number( found in the back of the road king magazine, or in the TA directory...its the 4 digit number to the right hand side of the location) to get the discounted fule price and the retail pump price for you to compare...there is a small pumping fee per gallon and then you comdata fees, so in the end you will pay about 1 to 1 1/2 cents more than this number will tell you.
These discounts are taken as soon as you complete the transaction and you will see the discounted price reflected in the top right hand corner of your receipt.

The number is 1-800-494-3835 call the number and follow the directions..it will lead you to savings...I have been using this program for about 4 years all the way from the Con-Way days, same number...same program...you Fed Ex guys call the number and see if it matches your program, I thinke it does, not for sure Steve never got back with me on the number you guys call......but it does work with Panther...BUT you have to use the comdata card in order to use the program . Any questions feel free to PM me.:)
