Enlighten me to these "games" you mention. Again, it's all a conspiracy right. It wouldn't be the fact that maybe it is slow right now and there just hasn't been a load to give you...nah, it must be us out to screw you over. It's like being a professional ball player...everyone loves ya when you're doing good but as soon as you're not doing so well those same people will boo you. Do you think I'm that immature to let you sit somewhere just because you posted on here? I think not. What advantage is there for both you and I to let you sit??? Neither you nor Panther benefit from this whatsoever. Hell, if it were in our control to give each and every person a sweet load everyday don't ya think we would? If the economy sucks as it does now then customers start getting real picky on how they spend their dollars on transportation. It's nothing Panther, you or I did,it's just how it is in this up and down industry. Yes,we should be balls to the wall busy right now but we're just not. You're not the only one sitting out there, trust me. Many are in the same boat as you. It's just like Vegas...right place at right time. Some will win, others will lose their shirts.

You should know the reason they still bring on trucks. As long as we turndown freight and have high refusal rates then they keep cycling them through. Sorry I get under your skin. I personally do not remember having specific dealings with you. This is a job, never personal. I'm all business when I'm there, have no time for BS. I have to run a company on my shift and do it to the best of my ability. ;)

Actually every driver needs to spend at least a day in dispatch to see what goes on. Dispatchers, on the other hand, need to spend at least a week in a solo truck observing and learning what runs make sense and what runs don't. Perhaps then they will know when a certain call comes in that they need to build a $50 bonus into the run or full d/h to pickup or whatever changes it from a junk run to a run that makes sense.

Actually Leo, we did that about 5 years ago. We had dispatchers spend a week on the road with some of our drivers'. Of course this was back when we enough staff to keep things rolling. Maybe in the future when we have enough people we can do this again. My dad use to drive for Bender-Louden 30+ years ago. I remember in the summers going out with him. Some of the best memories I had of him...right up till he ditched us,lol

I realize you are scrambling to get people into chairs right now however the week delay in filling the chair might be worth it for a more qualified person. When they've spent a day or two sitting in one of the dead zones (trying to reconnect to the topic) they'll be much better equipped to work with the trucks on getting the jobs run. One of those things where there isn't time to do it right and can't afford not to take the time dilemmas.

Why? anything offered below your load rate is not a refusal, and you don't lose your board position.
What are you thinking?
If you are complaining, it appears to be of your own choices.

My best guess is that's exactly what they're doing.

In addition to refusing them, they are likely laughing and wondering why a straight truck would be doing van loads at a reduced rate, or placing bets if someone would be foolish enough to run them.
Obviously cheap entertainment for the van drivers.
Think about what you are doing.

Do you really have to be act like that? I run operations along with another supervisor and there's one in Charlotte/Chicago. Funny how you always seem to point the finger my way. I don't babysit every driver that is sitting. Then again you couldn't fathom what we do in operations elsewhere, or what our responsibilities are. If you dislike us that much there's nothing stopping you from weighing your options elsewhere. I wish you would get a load so I wouldn't have to read your negative crap.

In regards to Panther Dead Zones, there are some just like all companies have dead zones.. I cringe when I hear a driver "sat for 5 days" anywhere. First, I check with backhaul to see if there is anything out there for a van like a couple of pallets. Maybe it will only pay 25 cents a mile but it can get you to a moving area. Sometimes you can find a load on a truck stop load board that is marked with a "P" for a partial and call the broker co. and ask about it. I have found several brokered loads in a van. Panther will set it up for you and send it over as a normal looking load and they will get 15% to do this but it guarantees that you will get paid. You need to be proactive and take matters into your own hands and try everything you can do to get moving. Yes it doesn't always work, and yes sometimes you have to deadhead back to a moving area, but IMO you need to seek out all options. :+
