I guess it is easy to see where the saying " the grand purveyors of cheap freight" is coming from.

On FSC rates, if you are on the variable, ask them for copy of the bills. They legally are required to show them to you. We have asked on occassion and haven't had a problem.

I believe a carrier is only required by law to show billing if the O/O is being payed a percent of the total charges.

You may be right on that, although the only refusal we had on it was at the Fed many many years ago. When asked at the Cat there hasn't been a problem. And of course if I book my own, I obviously know in advance. Probably be hard to short me on my own load.:D

Amazing, just utterly amazing.

It is a joke. Because we went through this a couple months back with the fed and a few who kept saying they are sliding downhill, it only seems to be a correct response to apply the same twisted logic to this carrier - the sky is falling ... oh my Panther is on its way out.

I know I will never be able to get back on the road but I can't see where running a straight for any thing less than $3.50-4.00 a mile can even put fuel in the truck much less maint., insurance and other associated costs thrown in.Thats including personal expenses and everything. just my 2 cents.guess i'm dreaming tho

well, if it takes 3.50 / 4.00 per mi. in a straight truck for someone to run their business and pay personal expenses, then one should look at their expenses with a microscope and see where money is being wasted. sure, that kind of money would be nice but not needed to make a decent living and have plenty left over.

Dynamite 1 i was thinking with all maint. fuel insuranc as high as it is for any big truck.tires and layover costs i didnt think even at $2.00-2.50 any one could afford to run any truck. i know this is just my thoughts but what with a marriage and maybe a couple children in school, house payment all other expenses.

With all the expenses you mentioned then $4.00 a mile is what one may need to make a living...but reality..that kind of money is not out here...IF one needs that much then this business is NOT for them....
If you look around the biz....how many young couples do you see?....like the 25-40 age bracket? very few...

OVM i see what your saying,i dont mean this offensivly, but that is why not so many younger couples can afford.i know everyone likes to put back a few dollars a year for retirment ,but it seems any thing less than $3.00 a man can't afford a nice truck and not kill his self trying to pay for it.

So.....just what would you consider a "nice truck" and what would you consider "killing yourself trying to pay for it"?

Does a 379 Pete and thousand mile 4K weeks sound OK?

x06col i know i've said this a few times before but a pretty new truck ispretty expensive is what i meant by a nice truck.don't know exact cost but some where around $75000-90000 for a good used one.
i know that all of you would like to put back a little more for when you retire. when i was running in my truck(f 250 w/camper shell)sprinter height believe it or not,i would get alot of 1.25-1.42 a mile but i'm seeing not much higher for straights. i can't see this rate for straights single or tandem.when i tried to quiz recruiters before i got out all they could say 1.45-1.65. i can't see it

I look around and I am ashamed to see all the unfit drivers out here that look like death warmed over in the uniform or out for that matter. Go to a shipper in shorts flip flops smoking cigs looking like crap. Some body best start fleecing. What a total embarsement. YA IM MAD gives the ones that do care a bad name. Fix It.
