Good one Moot!
I'll have to make a note of that one.
Actually, their given names were: Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
They were of the children of Judah, the royal tribe, and probably of the house of David.
The prince of the eunuchs changed their names, partly to show his authority over them and their subjection to him, and partly in token of their being naturalized (not by their choice)and made Chaldeans.
Their Hebrew names, which they received at their circumcision, had something of God, or Jah, in them: Hananiah - The grace of the Lord; Mishael - He that is the strong God; Azariah - The Lord is a help. To make them forget the God of their fathers, the guide of their youth, they give them names that savour of the Chaldean idolatry.
I have always found it quite interesting how the world seeks to downplay, or degrade, the standing and heritage of righteous men. No wonder folks always remember the names associated with idolatry; those being: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Of course, I referred to them by those names until I began to read, and study, the Bible.
