Owner/driver percentage pay

I know the standard owner/driver pay is 60/40 one way or the other in most cases that I've seen. Believe I did see one that was 58/42, but in thinking of this, was wondering if anyone has considered something different? I have two trucks, one I pay 60%, the other 40%, with fuel charges and fsc going to the 60. I was thinking what if there was a 50/50 split...split fuel costs and fsc 50/50? Advantages, disadvantages? Advantage to the party going from 40 to 50% - getting additional income especially when the fsc is a larger part of the total income. Advantage to an owner now paying 40% going to 50 is that the driver then has some financial responsibility to drive more efficiently as he's now paying for half of the fuel. Thought of bookkeeping nightmares, but really dividing by two is not that difficult. SO - just curious to get any feedback, pro/con on both sides. Or if even there is anyone doing something similar. Not saying I will switch to this but just wanted to get some feedback on the thought. Maybe there is something I'm not seeing that would prove to be a deal breaker.....(I'm thinking of straight trucks, whether it would work for vans/sprinters, am not aware enough of the pay or expenses to consider this.)

The person that drives my CV gets every dime the van makes less a fixed fee..he gets all the FSC and 100% of any and all layover, detension pay, empty move money...me get all money paid to the van less the weekly fixed fee to rent the van....it works great...i don't tell him what or how to do anything..i can count on 1 hand the number of times i have talked to him in the last 3.5 months he has been in the van....He runs the van as it is his and his own business...oh and he is also responcable for every expense incurred by the van, other then the licence plates...and in a few more months, I will sign the title over to him and it will be his van.....

Cheff Dennis "king of cargo vans" buy here pay here, rent to own. lol. All you need is a drivers liscense and a nationwide cell phone. J/K. I wish I could have had a deal like yours when my second van blew up on me!

Just remember, the more freedom you take from the driver (decisions), the more IRS considers him/her an employee of yours... not an independent driver.
