Outrageous Tolls

Last week I had to deliver a load to Newport, RI. I crossed the river into NY via the Tappan Zee bridge on I 87/287. Big Mistake. The toll for a Sprinter is $12.25. The reason is because it is over seven feet tall. I don't know if a flat top Sprinter could squeeze under that limit or not but if you're driving a tall one, find another way to cross the Hudson river.

Thats one reason most of us get extra bucks for crossing a bridge in NYC I know my company used to pay an extra $100 now I understand it is $150.

The Last time (KEY PHRASE)I went to Brooklyn in my GMC 2500 it cost $5.00 loaded with 1500 pounds to cross some bridge I can't remember its name coming out empty it cost me $9.00 it's no wonder why its so crowded there it cost too much to leave.

was at the blue water bridge the other day and was charged $3.50. the 'clerk' said it is becuase I have a 3500, not because I am hauling 150lbs or I have a commercial vehicle. So today I asked what is up with that, the lady who charged me $3 said they go by the model of the van or count lug nuts never mentioned commercial vehicle. All the times I went over that bridge it was $1.50.

I come through DTW and it is $3 for a commerical vehicle and they say it is becuase I am in a commercial vehicle.

Wow haven't been into NYC for awhile. I heard the tolls were up but not that much. Guess it'll be awhile before I go there.
Hey Greg I had similar at Detroit-Windsor. One charge one time and different on the way back. I worked it out when the Canuck buck was at a lower value, it was better to pay in cdn funds as it worked out cheaper (I know that's penny pinching).

First, if you are a van driver you need an easy pass. Cost $25 to load and works in all of New England, PA, IL and the east coast. Use the ez-pass lane and you will be charged what a normal 2 axle vehicle is charged. The Tap is the best way acroos the Hudson. If you want to go 30 miles out of your way, go up 87 N to 84 E and cross there.

Second.. ALWAYS get an extra $50 to $100 for tolls when going through NYC or the Island. If they don't pay, don't go.

I think I'd be removing my 3500 badges and investing in some wheel covers at least to use while in that area.
