Other than All Types who hires under 21?

My partner and I were about ready to sign with All Types as our first expediting job, untill we read all the posts about All Types! I'm 20 and my partner is 19 and we want to get on the road with our van, and trucks. We are both willing and wanting to go out for weeks at a time. If anyone knows of a company that hires good drivers under 21 please save us from All Types!!!

Thanks!

None of the Decent Companys will touch you till your 23. You Might try a Local Courier Service in your Area.It will give you a Taste of what its like 99%of what you will do is Local and a Long Haul on Occasion.

If All Types hires under 21 there is a reason!
Actually, they thrive on ignorance.
Look for some kind of retail thing. Marketing, i.e. putting up displays in stores for companies. I don't know what you would look under, but you would go to different cities and put up new, or revamp old displays.
Ask at Grocery stores about this kind of thing. Maybe the managers can give you ideas.
It isn't the manager or employees that get those things to the store to be stocked. Card companies and florist bring in their own stuff.
So go to all kinds of stores and ask questions, inc truck stops.
There's Auto / Napa, Advance, etc.
Chips, bread, Linen for hospitals, Souveniers.
What kind of skills do you have? Are you resourceful? Is there some service you can perform? -Look under 'services' or some such thing.
Can you haul campers? I know you have to put up a bond or high ins. and I don't know about the age.
Some people drive vehicles to a destination and return via public trans. or they've towed the spare vehicle.
Can you drive a dump truck? If you can do anything right now that would give you experience in something bigger than a pickup, you will have an edge when it comes to OTR.
For now, if none of these ideas work out, keep exploring options, keep your record clean, and just get used to someone telling you what to do. Everyone on the road has someone telling them what to do. (It's been so long since I've only had One boss. So much simpler then.)
I heard that "Two Men and a Truck" started out with 2 guys getting odd jobs using their truck. Would do anything that needed to be done. Now they have a business. It's probably also patented.
The thread of my thoughts here are: 1. take orders and advice well. 2. Be creative with your ideas and hop all over the computer to find new ones. Maybe you will find your niche doing something else. 3. Your record is the most important thing you can bring to this business. I want to be able to trust every driver out there, even though I know I can't, but at least it's comforting to know that most commercial drivers try hard to be careful. And, that most of them can't get driving jobs any easier than I could.
Let us know how you're doing. Maybe over time someone on here can help you get started. Lots of luck.

I have to say it. Don’t work for them. Run, run far away from them.

theend said it all, they thrive on ignorance.

I can’t understand how they can stay in business with this liability. I mean that this could easily lead to criminal charges in some circumstances.

When I had to deal with commercial insurance, the drivers I hired were not to be under 21, period. Even though the company I worked for did not fall under any DOT regs at that time, my insurance company called the shots, period.

I would assume few things that may be happening;

The company is actually running illegally by not having the proper insurance coverage

OR

That they are betting that you, an under 21 aged driver will not have an accident that will lead to the need to file a freight claim

OR

That the contract you sign puts all responsibility on you the contractor for any problems that come up regardless what happened

OR

They are lying to the DOT, their customers and the drivers and no one has caught them yet or took any real legal action against them

I would have some serious questions for a carrier that is operating interstate, and is running people that are under 21.
If it is within the state (intrastate) then that is perfectly legal if they have the proper insurance.
Most of the other carriers start at 21. Many go all the way to 25.

Good, bad or indifferent, I would really investigate this company, as you would any other.
EO archives are a great place to start.

NO ONE HIRES UNDER 21,YOU HAVE TO BE AT LEAST 23 BEFORE ANY COMPANY WILL EVEN LOOK AT YOU.
BUT IT RENEWS MY FAITH THAT A COUPLE OF YOUNG GUYS LIKE YOURSELVES WANT TO GET OUT THERE IN THE REAL WORLD AND DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIVES.
DO NOT GO TO ALL TYPES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SOMETHING ELSE WILL COME ALONG.YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE PATIENCE.

I agree with fastman_1 look to a local out fit that may have some out of town runs. This will give you experience on the road and make it easier later, and you'll know the expense and income problems and the maintenance fun.
There a couple of companies here that have expedite in the local areas covering upto 500 miles and they hire anyone with a truck as you can work local with no international, interstae or inter provincial so it works for all. Good luck hope you find something.
