How can someone accept a load at $1.22 a mile from Ft Worth to Oakland CA? E unit (tractor trailer - aprox 25k lb load). Lets show some solidarity and keep the rates higher. I know everyone has their $ # per mile. But come on- dont drive drive down the rates so low on the rest of us... So I will keep sitting here in the great state of TX and eat McDonalds. Might even venture across the street for some animal viewing at Cabella's!

Some people can make a profit at the lower rates , I'm not as seasoned as some on here but I have heard of those with low overhead making a decent living running lower rates !

I don't see how ANYONE can make a profit on a REEFER load, with very little DH, that paid LESS than $1 per mile. turned that one down TODAY! Had another, not reefer, 1200lbs, "C" rate, 865 miles for $865 give or take a few cents. YEP, great stuff! Neither was sent back out to the truck.

Also some drive for fleet owners who won't let a driver turn anything down.

Glad you posted those. The past two weeks this DR turned down many such loads. We were looking at each other and couldn't believe some of the offers.one funny one was a D load 700 miles to Regina SK for .88 per. Ummmm no.

We wait for profitable runs.

So glad I don't need to fight the Qualcomm to make a descent living. I never will be rich but enough to enjoy life.

Oh don't get it wrong. I am glad for every single offer. When the clink calls out an offer we are pleased to have someone else has been the salesman. Not me thanks. It takes no work to reply yes or no. Some quick figuring and a good business decision is made and then reply.

We are overly happy with our year. VERY happy!

We join the OP's view of running smart.

If reefer loads are going for a dollar a mile, aren't you suppose to haul two or three of those at a time?

I would imagine their own people. Don't see many reefer loads show up on Sylectus.

Rates like that will lead to a WHOLE lot of junk equipment and, shall we say, less that optimum drivers quickly.

Might have started. I stopped at West Memphis, AR last week and that description fit quite a few there.
Carriers that aren't paying anything can't be too surprised at that finding.

Possibly, but I think they are hoping and praying the immigration/amnesty bill passes.

That would take care of their driver problem, for a short time. It will do NOTHING for the junk equipment. The trucks will still cost what they do and the cost to run them is going up at the same time profits are dropping. NOT a good business model in my opinion. You either want quality all around or you don't. Short term thinking always ends up in failure.

Agreed, and with bad & unskilled drivers the carriers costs to operate their trucks will actually increase, thereby negating any cheap wages they might pay them. Customer service will also suffer.

There will also be an increase in the rate of cargo loses. Not only from breakdowns but lower quality people will lead to more thefts, hijacking etc.

FedEx heading to the long list of bottom feeders. What a shame to see this decline into the generic. After 8 yrs I am not proud to be here. Hoping things change but not holding my breath!
