OPS 1 Oil Savings

Original cost of OPS1 was $600.00 which we bought last year. We figure we have saved about $2200.00 since we have purchased the unit by not having to change our oil as often.
We finally changed our Oil due to TBN getting low. We replaced our oil with Mobil Delvac 1 fully synthetic. We had 146,519 miles on the oil before Bob did a complete oil change. Bob changes the OPS 1 oil filter every 15,000 miles and sends in a oil sample at that time, he changes the full flow oil filter every 30,000 miles. We spend an average of $60.00 every 15,000 miles for new filters and oil sample. Bob lubes the truck himself and also changes the fuel filter every other time that he changes the oil filters.

good for You TC
thanks for the report
I have the FS2500 at home , and will install it when i get there.
by pass oil are the way to go.
big saving.
i think that changing the filter every 15K is a bit soon , depending on the oil capacity in the engine ,you might stretch that even further for more saving,as long as you mail that sample on time.
what kind of engine do you have , 150K seams bit early for the syntactic/by pass combo.
also , how mach oil do you need to add ,every time you change the filter ?
again ,thanks for the report.

We have a Cat C7 and we did not have the synthetic oil to begin with we just went to that. Every time Bob changes the oil filter he has to add a quart. We do not use oil anymore so very seldom does he have to add any.

We add so little oil Bob feels more comfortable changing the oil filter and getting an oil sample every 15,000 miles.

Linder - glad you posted this - I followed your use of the OPS1 and the mileage you had gotten on your OCI since installing it, mentioning it on another forum I'm on. Glad to see it has worked out well for you guys.

I recently installed a bypass filter on our Sprinter - in fact, I installed two of them - one for the engine oil and one for the ATF. They are MotorGuard units, modified by an old boy (Ralph P. Woods) outta Texas, for use with lube oil.

The units use a single roll of toilet paper as the filter media and will filter particles down to a 1/10 of a micron. The "filters" only cost me around $0.71 per (12 paks of Scott 1000 single-ply at Walmart) so I change them at around 3K or 4K miles.

The sump capacity on the Sprinter (MBE 600 2.7L engine) is only 9.5 quarts, but the bypass raises it by about a quart. It will be interesting to see how far I can extend - my normal OCI's, before the bypass, using the ASSYST oil quality monitor on the Sprinter tended to be 12K to 14K.

I installed the bypass filter with nearly 13K on the then current oil change and the initial results I got back from Blackstone were encouraging:

I had an FS2500 on a prior truck but will be switching to the OPS-1 for this truck. The overall costs are lowest with it I believe.

since you already have a unit ,
i cant see how it will be chipper to invests in another unit.
what return on investment you are looking for ?
it will never pay for itself ...
my unit is clean and sealed in a box , so this info. can be very useful to me ,as i can easily sell the old one .

if im remember correct :
the FS2500 filter costs 18$
and the oil sample costs 27$
being a small unit ,I don't need a full quarts of expensive synthetic oil every time.
and with a small C unit engine ,I don't need a big by pass filter, like on the big C7 engine.

Please reply .

The old unit was on a different engine and went away along with the truck it was attached to. The new truck has to have a different unit due to the different engine. The overall cost of the OPS is lowest of any of the bypass systems and it performs as well or better than any other. That's why I'm switching to it.

Hey TeamCaffee,...i read here that you have the OPS bypass installed, which i agree is a great unit...i'm an ex-frieght carrier had a great business going for more and have recently got divorced and was practically forced into selling off my 4 tractors due to not enough time money or energy....but before selling the business was even a thought i had purchased 3 OPS systems and a 50 pck of filters and oil sample kits....well the oil samples kits were lost in the mix of moving all my belongings but i still have the 50 filters and 3 units...now i am willing to get rid of everything because now i have no use for them....if you know any one interested in purchasing the units i will give a great deal all they will need are the corresponding installation kits for their type of engine but as for the filters if you were interested i can once again give you a really great deal for them because like i had said before i have no use for them anymore ...if you are interested feel free to contact me back

CumaLongWay, thanks for the offer but we will be switching to the OPS-1 Ecopure system with the new truck, and we have enough supplies to get us through our life with our current truck. The guys at OPS-1 are very accommodating and if you gave them a call they may buy your systems and filters back from you, I would talk to Artie. Good luck.

Have you spec'd out your new truck and ordered it yet?
I know you are very concerned about fuel economy and I was curious as to what set up you are going with.
